The I-10 Border Battle took place on Saturday January 13^th, at Lamar University in Beaumont, TX. The invite only event saw seventy players from all across Louisiana and Texas in attendance, but we will focus only on the performances of the Louisiana prospects.

Yesterday, we broke down the event by looking at the Top Statistical Performers, which you can view HERE.

Today, we dive deeper into the event with a few Quick Hits on prospects that stood out.

LSU-Eunice recruit, 2018 C Nick Harris (The Dunham School, LA) was impressive during BP, showing a balanced approach with quick hands and strength at contact recording the top event exit velocity at 98 mph. Behind the plate, he threw 74 mph from the crouch and posted a pop time of 2.03-seconds.

2019 OF Chandler Hay (Cedar Creek HS, LA) continued to show an elite level of athleticism, posting a 6.66 laser-timed 60-yard dash. The right-handed hitter also displayed quality bat speed recording 89 mph exit velocity, also making solid contact in two out of three at-bats.

Unsigned 2018 RHP/IF Joey Blanchard (Zachary HS, LA) had himself a solid all-around day. The right-handed hitter roped hard ground-balls and line-drives during his batting practice round, and pitched 81-84 mph with slight arm side run from a high-¾ slot. His curveball showed depth with 11/5-shape and solid spin at 71-72 mph.

2019 LHP Timothy Ruffino (Hannan HS, LA) continued to show an ability to attack the strike zone with his fastball during his outing Saturday. Pitching 78-80 mph with the offering, Ruffino goes right at hitters showing feel for command to both sides of the plate. In addition, he displayed feel for a breaking ball with depth and early break at 65-67 mph.

2019 C/SS Bryce Grizaffi (Central Catholic HS, LA) shows flashes of a high-level defend tool with premium arm strength. A lean 5-foot-10, 165-pound frame with strong build, Grizzaffi shows looseness in his hips with athletic actions and quality receiving skills. His quick, fluid footwork, in addition to quick, clean transfers and above average arm strength (80 mph positional velocity) allowed him to post an event best 1.93-second pop time.

2020 SS/RHP Davis Meche (Barbe HS, LA) showed a polished, well-rounded game once again. An athletic 5-foot-10, 155-pound frame, Meche shows feels for infield play, attacking the baseball with his feet, and showed an advanced understanding of angles with solid actions and solid arm strength across. Offensively, the left-handed hitter found barrel in all three of his at-bats, and made an impact on the base paths, getting great jumps, which allowed him to steal several bags.

2019 C Landon Trosclair (Teurlings Catholic HS, LA) is one to watch in the coming months, as physical 6-foot, 175-pounder showed off an impressive all-around toolset Saturday. Clearly evidence of his athleticism as a catcher, Trosclair posted a 6.95 laser-timed 60-yard dash, and showed loose, fluid hips receiving. Although still developing overall polish as a defender, Trosclair flashed signs of being able to shut down an opponent’s running game with an above average throwing arm, posting an 82 mph positional velocity and 2.01-seconds pop time. As well, the right-handed hitter showed quality bat speed with strength at contact during batting practice, posting an exit velocity of 87 mph.

2019 LHP Dylan Beier (Barbe HS, LA) was dominant during his outing at the I-10 Border Battle, as we stated yesterday. The 5-foot-10, 165-pounder’s performance on Saturday has already created significant buzz in recruiting circles, and as we transition into the spring season he should certainly be one to follow. Working with outstanding tempo, and filling up the strike zone, Beier showed a quality three-pitch mix, and was overwhelming for the most part on opposing hitters. Pitching 85-88 mph with his fastball, Beier showed command, and ability to pitch to both sides of the plate. Additionally, he showed a tight spinning breaking ball with depth and late break at 71-73 mph, as well as, an exceptional feel for a changeup with fastball arm speed, deception, and late fading action at 78-80 mph.

2019 RHP/C Drew Lasseigne (Central(BR) HS, LA) is another prospect from Saturday’s I-10 Border Battle that has already created recent buzz on the recruiting trail. The physical 6-foot-4, 220-pounder showed explosive stuff on the mound, pitching 87-90 mph with late life and heaviness to his fastball. The difference maker for Lasseigne on Saturday, however, was the increase in sharpness and firmness to his slider. The uptick in velocity, 76-78 mph, on the offering allowed for it to be devastating on opposing hitters. Heading into the spring, Lasseigne will likely see interest significantly spike, as he looks to help Central(BR) defend their class 5A state title.
