Denham Springs       2

Game 1 Recap:

HAMMOND, LA – The Prep Baseball Report Louisiana scouting staff headed over to Southeastern Louisiana University on Monday to catch the matchup between Denham Springs HS and Hahnville HS. Both clubs would get quality starts on the mound, but Denham Springs would eventually claim a 2-1 win in extra innings.

Offensively, the Yellow Jackets were led by 2019 OF David Frye (Denham Springs HS, LA), who finished the day 3-for-4 with two runs scored, and added a stolen base. 2020 3B Noah Juan (Denham Springs HS, LA) also finished the contest 3-for-4 with a double.

Louisiana State recruit, 2019 SS Cade Doughty (Denham Springs HS, LA) finished the day 2-for-4 with a triple, as dozens of Major League scouts were on hand to catch his first at-bats of the 2019 season. Doughty also picked up the win on the mound, pitching 2/3 of an inning in relief, sitting 89-91 mph with his fastball, and struck out two batters.

LSU-Eunice JC recruit, 2019 RHP Jase McDonald (Denham Springs HS, LA) got the start for the Yellow Jackets and was impressive, tossing 5 and 2/3 innings, allowing only one run on three hits, while striking out nine. The athletic 6-foot-3 right-hander sat 82-84 mph with his fastball, touching 85 mph, and showed a quality breaking ball with 11/5 shape, quality depth, and late, sharp break at 70-72 mph that proved to be a quality put-away pitch throughout the day.

2019 RHP Joey Saucier (Hahnville HS, LA) got the start on the mound for the Tigers, as the senior was effective in a five inning outing, running his fastball up to 85 mpg, while allowing only one run on four hits. The Tigers were led offensively by Hayden Theriot, who finished the day 2-for-4.

Game Two

Holy Cross      0
Zachary         10

Game 2 Recap:

ZACHARY, LA – The Prep Baseball Report scouting staff headed over to Zachary high school for a nightcap of Opening Day action, as the Broncos hosted Holy Cross HS to open the 2019 season.

It was a dominating performance for the Broncos, as they scored in every inning, eventually claiming a 10-0 run-rule victory, in five innings that also saw 2020 RHP Tanner Hall (Zachary HS, LA) toss a no-hit performance, and only faced the minimum number of batters.

Eight of the nine hitters in the Bronco lineup collected hits on the night, with 2021 1B AJ Bailey (Zachary HS, LA) leading the way, finishing the day 3-for-3 with two RBI, and three runs scored.

Louisiana State recruit, 2019 SS Collier Cranford (Zachary HS, LA) got the Bronco offense going in the first inning, as he laced a triple over the centerfielders head, driving in the first run of the contest, and showed off his high-level athleticism going first-to-third in a hurry.

Louisiana State recruit, 2019 C Alex Milazzo (Zachary HS, LA) finished the day 1-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored in the opening day contest, while also showing off his elite catch-and-throw skills, cutting down the only steal attempt of the day with ease.

As mentioned earlier, former Future Games participant, 2020 RHP Tanner Hall (Zachary HS, LA) was dominant in his first outing of the 2019 season, tossing a complete no-hitter, striking out six in five innings, while walking none. Pitching 83-85 mph with his fastball, Hall showed advanced feel to pitch throughout the night, working both sides of the plate with ease, and flashed a wipe-out breaking ball with late, sharp break that was an effective put-away pitch all night.
