Scouting Report

Thompson’s ability to slow the game down while playing fast stood out at the Future Games. The wiry-athletic, 6-foot-1, 160-pound shortstop has a frame that is sure to carry considerably more strength in the future, and given his aggressive approach and power potential, might ultimately shift him over to third base down the road. The right-handed hitter has a deeper load that includes a tilt of the barrel before quickly working uphill while creating torque with impressive rotational acceleration. The present gap-to-gap strength should quickly increase as his frame develops. On the infield, he is confident in his solid hands with an accurate arm and quicker release. The frame and tools leave lots to like about Thompson’s upside, and college coaches are likely to be closely monitoring his progressions in the future. -Shooter Hunt

Thompson has since committed to Texas A&M.
