At the end of each summer, the nation's best and brightest uncommitted prospects, arrive to the Lakepoint Sports Complex in Emerson, GA, to show off their skills in front of 300+ college coaches.  At each event, there are familiar names who continue to shine, while newcomers announce their presence.  Today, we shine a light on one of those familiar faces, in Cooper Smith (Live Oak HS) who is a two time Junior Future Gamer, having attended the event in 2020 and 2021.  The Live Oak catcher discusses his commitment to Louisiana Tech University, who he's thankful for, his experiences at the Junior Future Games, and much more below.  Congratulations again to Cooper on this great achievement! 

 

-Congratulations on committing to Louisiana Tech University.  What led you to commit to the Bulldogs?

I established a good relationship with all of the coaches and they made me feel really comfortable.  The school and town are a really good fit.  Coach Burroughs and his staff have created a winning culture and I can not wait to be apart of it!

-We know that you've had a tremendous support system coming up as a player.  Who would you like to thank for helping you get to this point in your journey?

I would like to thank my parents for all of their love and support.  They have been my guiding source and I wouldn't be here without them.  I would also like to thank Coach Jesse Cassard and the staff at Live Oak for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to develop as both a person and a player.

-You were a member of our 2020 and 2021 Junior Future Games teams each of the last two summers.  What can you tell upcoming prospects about your experience at the event?

The Junior Future Games were first-class events, and I was able to play for something bigger than myself.  I loved representing Louisiana with other players from across the state and going head-to-head against the best from other states.

-How would you describe yourself, both offensively and defensively, as a player?  Is there anything that Louisiana Tech fans should know about you?

Offensively, I feel like I can hit for power and average from the left side.  On the defensive side, I work hard for my pitchers and help them get as many strikes as possible.  I make a huge effort to block everything, so that runners aren't able to take extra bases.  I love the game of baseball, and I work hard to improve my craft each and every day.

 

-We know that you're in football right now, playing linebacker for Live Oak, but we wanted to get your thoughts on the upcoming baseball season for the Eagles.  Last spring, you guys had another nice season.  What can fans expect from Live Oak this year?

I am super excited about this year's team.  We have some quality arms coming back and some really good hitters with big game experience.  Our seniors last year set a high standard and we hope to build on that this year.
