At the end of each summer, the nation's best and brightest uncommitted prospects, arrive to the Lakepoint Sports Complex in Emerson, GA, to show off their skills in front of 300+ college coaches.  At each event, there are familiar names who continue to shine, while newcomers announce their presence.  It only seems fitting, now that we are less than two weeks away from this year's event, that we shine a light on one of our players from last year's event.  2023 RHP Hayden Robinson (Berwick HS) recently announced his commitment to Nicholls State University, becoming the 14th prospect from our 2021 Future Games team, to announce his college commitment.  Robinson discussed his decision to chose the Colonels, as well as his experience at last year's Future Games, and what to expect from Berwick next spring.  

 

-Congratulations on committing to Nicholls State University.  What led you to commit to the Colonels?

Thank you.  As soon as I stepped on campus, I just felt comfortable and I felt like I belonged there.  The coaches were very easy to talk to and they made it feel very natural.  Right when my recruiting process started, I knew that I wanted to stay closer to home and Nicholls checked off everything that I was looking for in a program, so I knew that was where I needed to be.

-Who would you like to thank for helping you get to this point in your journey?

I want to thank my teammates, family, and my friends for pushing me to be a better me.  My parents, who have always been doing more than enough for me, whether it's bringing me to tournaments six plus hours away, or making sure that I'm on top of my grades.  They always go above and beyond to make sure that I'm where I need to be, which I'm more than grateful for.

-You were a member of our 2021 Future Games team last summer.  What can you tell upcoming prospects about your experience at the event?

If you get invited to play in the Future Games...ACCEPT IT.  It was definitely worth it, getting to play with the top players in your state and getting to play against the top players in other states was an honor.  When I walked into Lakepoint, everywhere that I looked there were college coaches.  It was super exciting and when you get an opportunity to pitch in front of them, there's really nothing more exciting than that.

-How would you describe yourself on the mound?  Is there anything that Nicholls State fans should know about you?

I really came out of my shell on the mound this year.  When I'm on the mound, I'd say that I stay pretty composed, but I get a bit excited in big moments.  Other than that, I just try to get outs and win ball games.

 

-You guys made a nice run this spring, making it all the way to the Class 3A State Championship Game, before losing to Lutcher.  What can we expect from Berwick next spring?

All I can say, is we'll be in the exact same spot next year and we're not falling short this time.  We know what we have to work on and I think that it's going to finally click.  The little things play a big part in games, but all I can say is, we'll be back.
