September 1, 2021
With the start of the 2021-2022 school year, college recruiters are returning back to campus to get their respective teams ready to compete this upcoming spring. In addition, many college staffs are starting to make moves on recruits that impressed over the summer and into the early part of the fall. Today, we spotlight 2022 Cardell Thibodeaux Jr. of Acadiana High School. Last week, the left handed hitting outfielder announced his commitment to Coach Federico and the University of Louisiana-Monroe. Below, we discuss what led him to commit to the Warhawks, his recruitment process, and what fans can expect from Acadiana High School in 2022.
-Congratulations on committing to the University of Louisiana-Monroe. What led you to commit to the Warhawks?
After a great visit, I felt very welcomed at ULM and enjoyed Coach Federico's hospitality. After hearing about the program, I could see myself benefiting, as well as being a positive contributor to the team. I felt really comfortable at ULM and am excited to have made the decision to continue my academic and athletic career at ULM!
-All players have people that have helped them along their journey. Is there anyone that you'd like to thank for helping you get to this point today?
Well, first I would like to thank the most high God for putting me in good positions to succeed! I have so many people to thank because the support has been tremendous. In short, I would like to thank my parents (Cardell Sr. and Rodnika) and sister (Camryn) for their support, love, and sacrifices leading up to this point. Pastor Omar and First Lady, my church family and my extended family have supported me continually throughout the years in various ways. I would also like to thank my Godparents for being one of my biggest fans, as well as supporters! I would be remiss for not thanking all of my friends and teammates, as well as my coaches and the organizations that I have played with and for, because I could not have done it without them.
-You're a left-handed hitting outfielder for Acadiana High School and have hit at the top of the Rams order since your freshman year. How would you describe your style of play for ULM fans who may not know you yet?
My style of play would be getting on the bag anyway possible. I can hit balls in both gaps and also bring out some power and can leave the yard. I can lay a drag bunt down for a hit and use my speed to get into scoring position by swiping bases. I think the excitement and love I have for the game will be contagious for the ULM fans.
-What can high school baseball fans expect out of Acadiana in 2022?
High school baseball fans for Acadiana High can expect a confident and positive team. A team that is going to bring a lot of energy in every play and every game! We are going to ball until that last out, collecting wins to reach our goal of winning State!
