Class Of 2021 Rankings Updated

Trey Sofio
Louisiana Scouting Director

It’s been a busy four-plus months since the last update to the Class of 2021 rankings. As we have worked our way through the fall and winter, both on the state and national levels, more light has been shed on the freshmen class around the state of Louisiana.

It is still extremely early, perhaps even premature, to be forecasting Class of 2021 prospects, especially since the vast majority of the freshmen in the state haven’t even played a varsity high school game. Then again, the pace of recruiting is at an all-time high, evidenced by multiple prospects on this list already making their verbal pledges.

With that said, we have updated our class of 2021 rankings, a modest list of 35 prospects that have stood out early on in their careers. Certainly, this list will change and evolve in time, as we know many players will grow, develop and mature.

+ Tulane recruit, LHP/1B Benjamin Tate (Teurlings Catholic HS, LA) climbs to the No. 1 spot in the updated class of 2021 rankings, after an impressive showing at November’s All-State Games. The 6-foot-1, 175-pound freshmen has shown promise as a legitamate two-way prospect. Offensively, the left-handed hitter has shown an advanced hit ability with a polished path and bat speed. A left-handed pitcher as well, Tate shows an athletic delivery with a clean arm action, running his fastball up to 84 mph, and has shown feel to spin a quality breaking ball.

+ Louisiana State recruit, OF Josh Stevenson (St. Thomas More HS, LA) checks-in at No. 3 in the updated rankings, as the athletic left-handed hitting outfielder showed well during January’s Winter Future Games Trials.

+ C Baylor Cobb (Franklin Parish HS, LA) lands at the No. 4 spot in the most recent update. The physical 6-foot-2, 195-pound left-handed hitting catcher has seen his recruitment interest heat up in recent months after November’s All-State Games.

+ RHP Jack Walker (Barbe HS, LA) enters the rankings for the first time, coming in at No. 6 after the strong right-hander ran his fastball up to 87 mph, and showed feel for a tight-spinning breaking ball with quality depth and shape.
