At the end of June, the first annual ArkLaTex Open was held at Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, LA. Today, we look at a more in-depth analysis from the pitchers and catchers in attendance at the event.
Pitchers & Catchers
+ Austin Acree, RHP, Claiborne Christian HS (LA), 2019
Thick 6-foot-2, 215-pound frame. Right-handed pitcher throwing from high-3/4 release with long arm action and regular effort in delivery. Smooth rhythm with level shoulders, in-line direction, landing square and with some recoil. Fastball sat 78-80 mph and commanded for strike. Breaking ball showed 11/5-shape with developing spin and solid depth at 67-69 mph. Knuckle ball was throw at 65-67 mph.
+ Brendon Baker, RHP, Live Oak HS(LA), 2017
Physical 6-foot-2, 205-pound frame. Right-handed pitcher throwing from high-3/4 release with long, quick arm action and effort in delivery. Quick rhythm, with slight uphill shoulders, in-line direction, landing square and athletically. Fastball sat 83-86 mph, touching 89 mph with some arm side action and developing command. Breaking ball showed 11/5-shape with developing spin and solid depth at 72-75 mph. Change up showed slight arm side action with near fastball arm speed at 72-73 mph.
+ Matthew Bihm, LHP, Centreville Academy (LA), 2020
Athletic 5-foot-11, 183-pound frame. Left-handed pitcher throwing from high-3/4 release with short, quick arm action and regular effort in delivery. Smooth rhythm, level shoulders, in-line direction, landing athletically slightly off to third base side. Fastball was commanded at 83-86 mph, touching 87 mph. Breaking ball showed 2/8-shape with early action and solid depth at 64-67 mph. Change up showed slight arm side action with near fastball arm speed at 70-71 mph.

Long, lanky, 6-foot-5, 185-pound frame. Right-handed pitcher throwing from high-3/4 release with long, loose arm action and regular effort in delivery. Smooth, fluid rhythm, with level shoulders, in-line direction, landing square and athletically, falling off slightly to first base side. Fastball sat 76-80 mph with arm side action and was command. Breaking ball showed 11/5-shape with developing spin and solid depth at 63-67 mph. Change up showed slight arm side action with near fastball arm speed at 66-67 mph.
+ Payton DeRanger, RHP, Delcambre HS (LA), 2017
Athletic 6-foot, 167-pound frame. Right-handed pitcher with long arm action into high-3/4 release, solid arm speed and regular effort. Some rhythm to the delivery, level shoulders, in-line direction, lands square with a slight recoil in the finish. Fastball sat 77-79 mph with slight arm side run and control of the pitch. Breaking ball showed 11/5 shape with near fastball arm speed, solid spin, and depth at 66-67 mph. Also showed a changeup with near fastball arm speed, arm side run action, and slight deception to the pitch at 67-68 mph.

Long 5-foot-10, 150-pound frame. Right-handed pitcher throwing from high-3/4 release with stiffness and effort in delivery. Developing rhythm, with level shoulders, landing slightly open with some recoil in the finish. Fastball sat 79-80 mph with developing command. Breaking ball showed 11/5-shape with developing spin, near fastball arm speed, and solid depth at 65-66 mph. Change up showed slight arm side action with near fastball arm speed at 69-70 mph.

Athletic 6-foot, 175-pound frame. Right-handed pitcher throwing from high-3/4 release with long, loose arm action and regular effort in delivery. Smooth rhythm, with slight uphill shoulders, in-line direction, landing square and athletically. Fastball sat 80-83 mph with arm side action and developing command. Breaking ball showed 11/5-shape with early action and solid depth at 65-67 mph. Change up showed slight arm side action with near fastball arm speed at 74-75 mph.
+ Nicholas Monceaux, RHP, Leesville HS (LA), 2019
Lean 6-foot, 145-pound frame. Right-handed pitcher that throws from a side angle arm slot, with long loose arm action and regular effort in delivery. Smooth, fluid rhythm with even shoulders, in-line direction landing square and finishing athletically. Fastball sat 73-76 mph with sinking action and developing command. Breaking ball showed 9/4-shape with developing spin and near fastball arm speed at 69-70 mph. Change up showed slight arm side action with near fastball arm speed at 66-69 mph.
+ Jaden Monk, C, West Ouachita HS (LA), 2019
Long and lanky 5-foot-10, 150-pound frame. Right-handed hitter hitting from tall, athletic setup with looseness in hands. Smooth subtle leg lift load, with short stride landing balanced. Fluid rhythm with gap-to-gap approach and long, slight uphill path and developing bat speed producing an exit velocity of 79 mph. Infielder with soft hands, static feet and clean exchanges while fielding balls on heels, sitting back. Short arm action into high-3/4 release with accuracy and carry on throws and developing arm strength, produced a positional velocity of 75 mph. Ran a 7.37 60-yard dash. Catcher with soft hands receiving and quick clean transfer. Short arm action, slightly open direction on throws to second recording a pop time range of 2.26-2.31, and a positional velocity of 68 mph.
+ Charles Norman, LHP, West Monroe HS (LA), 2019
Average 5-foot-7, 160-pound frame. Left-handed pitcher throwing from high-3/4 release with short arm action, regular effort and developing arm speed. Smooth rhythm, with level shoulders, in line direction, landing square and athletically finishing up-right. Fastball sat 72-74 mph, with developing command. Breaking ball showed 2/8-shape with loose, developing spin at 59-62 mph. Change up was thrown at near fastball arm speed at 68-69 mph.
+ Jacob Roark, LHP, West Monroe HS (LA), 2020
Long 6-foot, 152-pound frame. Left-handed pitcher throwing from high-3/4 release with short arm action, regular effort and developing arm speed. Smooth rhythm, with level shoulders, in line direction landing square and athletically. Fastball sat 69-72 mph, showed decent command. Breaking ball showed 2/7-shape with developing spin, near fastball arm speed, and solid depth at 61-63 mph. Change up was thrown at near fastball arm speed at 62-63 mph.
+ Weston Swanner, LHP, St. Frederick HS (LA), 2018
Thick 5-foot-8, 195-pound frame. Left-handed pitcher throwing from high-3/4 release with short, quick arm action and regular effort in delivery. Smooth rhythm, level shoulders, in-line direction, landing athletically slightly off to third base side. Fastball was commanded at 75-79 mph. Breaking ball showed 2/8-shape with early action and developing spin at 65-68 mph. Change up showed slight arm side action with near fastball arm speed at 71-73 mph.

Average 5-foot-8, 155-pound frame. Right-handed pitcher throwing from high-3/4 release with stiffness and effort in delivery. Developing rhythm, with level shoulders, landing slightly open with some recoil, falling off to first base side. Fastball sat 68-70 mph with developing command. Breaking ball showed 11/5-shape with developing spin and solid depth at 62-64 mph. Change up showed slight arm side action with near fastball arm speed at 65-66 mph.
+ Conner Wyly, C/RHP, Neville HS (LA), 2018
Athletic 6-foot-2, 200-pound frame. Right-handed hitter hits from tall, athletic setup, working backwards with leg lift, loose, quick rhythm. Pull side power with fluid rhythm, short path and solid bat speed. Has a feel for barrel, maintains leverage throughout approach; produced exit velocity of 89 mph. Catcher with soft hands receiving and quick clean transfer. Short arm action, inline direction on throws to second base recording a pop time of 2.01-seconds, and a positional velocity of 75 mph. Ran a 7.22 60-yard dash. Right-handed pitcher throwing from high-3/4 release with long arm action and regular effort in delivery, while collapsing on back leg. Smooth rhythm, with slight up-hill shoulders, in-line direction, landing square and athletically. Fastball sat 86-89 mph with downhill tilt and command. Breaking ball showed 11/5-shape with developing spin and solid depth at 68-69 mph. Change up showed slight arm side action with near fastball arm speed at 73-75 mph.
