Prep Baseball Report Louisiana picks up its coverage of in-state recruiting classes with the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. The Rajin’ Cajuns capitalized on the momentum of their 2014 super regional campaign and hauled in a very impressive 2015 in-state class.

Nick Lee, RHP/SS, South Beauregard HS
A 6-foot-4, 190-pound right-handed pitcher and shortstop from the Lafayette area.  Lee came on the scene as a big time prospect over the summer pitching with the Louisiana Knights.  Pitched the majority of the summer 89-92 mph and was up to 95.   He has a long, lean frame with a lot of room to get stronger.  The delivery is a little stiff, he has a slight arm wrap, and a fairly violent head whack, but he has a great feel for the baseball and displayed above average command of two pitches throughout the summer.  He throws both a curveball and slider, with the latter being the pitch expected to stick.  The slider is 80-82 and flashed at well above average at times, with hard tight spin and depth, but is still a developing pitch.  Occasionally will have a nice change working which makes him devastating on opposing hitters. Quality defender that lacks in foot speed and flashy actions, but displays advanced instincts, timing for the play, and understanding of angles. Right-handed hitter with projectable raw power, quality bat path, and hand-eye coordination. When his long arms get extended balls jump off his bat at an alarming rate, as he matures physically and adds strength he could turn into a middle of order bat.

Hogan Harris, LHP, St. Thomas Moore HS
A 6-foot-2 195-pound left-hander from Lafayette, LA. Harris’s fastball is extremely heavy and sits 88-92 mph and will touch 94.  Extremely fast arm out of mid ¾ release with angle to the plate. Drops and drives to the plate, causing some spinning off to occur at times and makes the landing look violent.  The breaking ball spins well, with adequate depth and velocity (73-75). Shows decent command and feel for the baseball.  The delivery creates a lot of deception and when added with the present power stuff it makes Harris extremely tough on left-handed hitters.

Dylon Poncho, SS/RHP, Kinder HS
A 5-foot-8, 175-pound shortstop and right-handed pitcher from Elton, LA.  Short compact build, with long arms for his size.  Right-handed hitter with a short compact swing, some strength at contact, plus bat speed, hits well to all fields, and doesn't swing and miss often.  A below average runner, but the instincts and feel for the game allow him to overcome that flaw as a defender. Shows great actions, takes good angles, understands hops, quality first step, and has a plus throwing arm with carry across the diamond. On the mound he will pitch 88-90 mph with a loose, clean and quick arm. Simple, athletic and repeatable delivery. Flashes a decent feel for a slider with developing spin.

Antonio Cullota, 2B/OF, Comeaux HS
At 5-foot-9, 165-pounds, Cullota’s game revolves around athleticism and speed. He is an extremely gifted and fast-twitch athlete. He runs the 60 in the high 6.4 to low 6.5 range. Hitting from the right side, he consistently gets down the line at an eye-opening 4.0-4.1 seconds. Short compact swing, lacks in strength and bat speed, but understands his strengths as an offensive player and tries to play to them. Quality defender as both an infielder and outfielder with a quick first step, solid range, understands angles with soft hands in the infield, and has outstanding tracking speed in the outfield. He will need to gain some strength as hitter, but he has game-changing speed and athleticism.

Ridge Heisler, LHP, Mangham HS
A 5-foot-11, 185-pound left-hander from Mangham HS. Pitchability lefty with three quality pitches. Fastball sits 85-87 mph and will touch 88 with life and deception. Flashes a quality breaking ball with 11/5 shape, tight spin and depth. Shows an above average changeup with arm speed, deception and late hard fade action. Throws all three for strikes and is an extremely tough competitor.

Donald Comeaux, RHP, North Vermillion HS
A 6-foot-2, 160-pound right hander with a long, wiry frame. Loose, clean arm action out of a high-3/4 release. Fastball sits 87-88 mph and will touch the low 90s. Has a quality feel for a slider at 76-78 with tight spin, depth and shows quality command. As he matures physically velocity and stuff could see an increase.

Cameron Horton, 3B, Benton HS
A 6-foot-3, 200-pound corner infielder from North Louisiana. A polished left-handed hitter with a smooth swing, free and easy bat speed, strength at contact, and plus power potential. Makes consistent hard contact, could be an impact middle of the order type of bat.

Ryne Ray, C, Evangel Christian HS
A 6-foot-2, 215-pound catcher with a strong, physical and durable frame. Shows above average arm strength with good carry on throws. Athletic defender with decent receiving and blocking skills. Right-handed hitter with some raw power and bat speed. Very good overall athlete and a surprisingly good runner, 6.9 60, for a catcher.
