A Look At Nicholls State's 2015 In-State Recruiting Class

Prep Baseball Report Louisiana continues to examine in-state recruiting classes with the Nicholls State Colonels. The Colonels and head coach Seth Thibodeaux continue to build a winning foundation after finishing 2nd in the Southland Conference in 2014. They capitalized on the momentum from last season and secured three quality in-state arms for their 2015 class.

Adam Tarver, RHP/CINF, Parkview Baptist
A 6-foot-2, 220-pound right-handed pitcher and corner infielder from Baton Rouge, LA. Big bodied frame with thick, strong lower half. Right-handed hitter with raw bat speed, pull-side power that creates quality leverage in the swing with backspin. Plays third base currently, has soft hands and arm strength, will need to improve footwork to stay there, but has the frame and tools to transition nicely to first base. Right-handed pitcher with a fast arm out of a high-3/4 release, creates deception in delivery as he throws across his body slightly, and creates quality angle of descent. Fastball will sit 87-89 mph with life and control. Throws a power curveball with 10/4 shape, tight spin, quality depth at 75-77. Has shown a decent feel for a changeup at times that could become an average pitch down the road. Last year in state playoffs he was 89-91 and up to 92 with an above average breaking ball at 78-80 for five innings.

Tristan Babin, LHP/OF, East Ascension HS
A 6-foot-3, 190-pound left-handed pitcher and outfielder from Gonzales, LA. Extremely athletic frame, fast-twitch actions and above average runner (6.7 60 yd). Left-handed hitter with smooth swing, rhythm and tempo, loose whippy barrel, strength at contact and creates quality leverage. Athletic corner outfielder with tracking instincts and above average arm strength. Left-handed pitcher with a clean, quick arm that creates pronounced angle to the plate. Fastball will sit 85-87 mph and up to 88 with life at times. Breaking ball has a nice 11/5 shape, spins well with depth at 75-77 mph. Also has shown an adequate feel for a changeup. Projectable athlete that will need to spruce up a few mechanical issues, but has present tools to conceivably be an impact player as both a pitcher and outfielder.

Zack Hansen, LHP, Live Oak HS
A 5-foot-9, 170-pound left-handed pitcher from Baton Rouge, LA. An extremely competitive, winning, pitchability left-hander with a short, quick arm action out of a mid-3/4 release. Fastball will sit 82-84 mph, getting up to 85. Breaking ball spins well with 11/5 shape, quality depth at 73-75 mph. Shows an advanced feel for a changeup with effective arm speed, deception, and late life that he will throw in any count for strikes. Lacks in flashy size, projectability, and overall stuff, but is an extremely resilient competitor. He lacks in fear and competes greater than his size and stuff say he will.
