2024 Team Preview: Glenbrook High School

Alex Armand
Louisiana Scouting Director

The 2024 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state.  Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Louisiana.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Sulphur, LA, home of the LHSAA State Championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality.  We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Louisiana.  We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, followed by our Power 25 Rankings release, and our popular Game of the Week segment.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the bayou state.  Each week, we will be releasing our players of the week, updating our Power 25 Rankings, and many more pieces of content.

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.

Team Outlook

Glenbrook finished with an overall record of 24-9 last year and were allowed to compete for the first time in school history in the LHSAA playoffs, after having to sit out the 2022 season, since it was their first as part of the LHSAA.  Expectations were high last year for the Apaches, as many people had them as the favorites in the Select D-IV playoffs.  Glenbrook's 2023 season unfortunately came to an end in the semifinal round of the playoffs, as they ran into a really good Ascension Catholic team.  Head Coach Tony Sanders and company have their work cut out for them this spring, as the Apaches will need to replace several key starters such as Maddox Mandino (UL-Lafayette) and Hayden Harmon (Louisiana Tech).  The good news for Glenbrook is that they return one of their key players from last season in junior Easton Sanders.  The Louisiana Tech recruit was a 1st-Team All-State selection last year and has some of the best raw power for a right-handed hitter in the entire state.  Sanders is also really good on the mound with a mid-upper 80's FB to go along with a sharp, late-biting SL.  Senior Landry Powell is another returner that Coach Sanders is excited about.  Powell will see time behind the plate and on the mound.  Senior Garrett Brown is a physical 6'2" 200 lbs. right-handed hitter that should see time as a designated hitter and at first base.  Junior Jackson Waller should be on the infield for the Apaches this season and is a solid defender with a smooth left-handed swing.  Fellow juniors Seth Mangrum, Dawson Day, and Preston Frye should all see varsity playing time in some capacity as well.  One thing that Coach Sanders has always done, is he's always scheduled tough competition for the Apaches before district play.  Glenbrook consistently competed against 5A powers such as Barbe last season and that's something that always pays off.  This year's group will definitely be battle tested, as they head into April, which means that Glenbrook should be primed for another deep playoff run in 2024.
