2023 Team Preview: Archbishop Rummel HS
January 5, 2023
The 2023 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, our staff is excited for the upcoming spring season. Players and coaches have been working all fall and through December, in preparation for the upcoming season and as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Louisiana.
Programs across the state have goals and aspirations to finish the year in Sulphur, LA at the LHSAA State Tournament, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes a reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams and players across the state, as we preview many of the great programs from Louisiana. We will take you right up to the first pitch of this season with these team previews and we'll continue providing coverage throughout the spring.
Please keep checking back throughout the season, as we strive to be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across Louisiana. Each week we will release our players of the week, as well as our Power 25 Rankings, which encompasses the top 25 teams in the state, regardless of class.
*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches. If you did not receive a questionnaire and would like to fill one out, please send an email to [email protected].

Team Outlook
Rummel High School enjoyed another successful campaign in 2022. The Raiders got off to one of the hottest starts in the state last spring, as they started off 8-0, and finished the year with a 26-18-1 record. During the LHSAA playoffs, Rummel lost a 3 game series to rival John Curtis in the quarterfinal round. Head Coach Frank Cazeaux and the rest of Raider nation are excited for the possibilities of this year's group, as they return a lot of guys who gained valuable experience last season. The offense for Coach Cazeaux's group should be a good one this season, as they return veteran players such as seniors Brock Bullinger, Rhett Centanni, Anthony Mouney, and Shane Hirstius. Up the middle of the field, the Raiders have one of the best middle infield duo's in the state in juniors Michael Ryan and Giancarlo Arencibia. Ryan, the state's top ranked position player in the 2024 class, has a unique combination of speed (6.59 60) and power (95 mph exit velocity with wood), and has the tools to stick at SS at the next level. Arencibia is a silky smooth defender and a quality offensive player with good bat to ball skills. Rummel also returns several underclassmen who saw playing time last spring with the likes of sophomore OF Evan Burg and INF Gavin Nix. Burg has been a steady riser in the state's 2025 class and committed to Tulane this past fall after our State Games event. Nix has been a familiar name on the prep baseball scene, thanks to a compact LHH stroke with present bat speed. On the mound, the Raiders return Bullinger, Arencibia, and Hirstius, who all saw mound time last spring. Keep an eye out for Junior RHP Coleman Capaci as well. The 6'0" 170 lbs. hurler had a good outing at our Top Prospect Games this past summer, where he sat 85-86 mph with his FB, showing the ability to throw both a four-seam and two-seam, while also landing his secondary offerings for strikes. The Raiders will have plenty of competition in what is always a tough Catholic League out of the New Orleans, LA area that includes Jesuit, Brother Martin, John Curtis, and Holy Cross, and defending state champion Catholic BR also competes in the LHSAA Select Division I playoffs. Rummel was one win away from advancing to the state tournament last spring and they return a good core nucleus of that roster, so we expect the Raiders to be right in the thick of things at the end of this coming spring.
