2022 Louisiana Prospects in PBR National Rankings

With the recent release of the Updated & Expanded 2022 Rankings, the state of Louisiana placed 10 prospects in the top 500 nationally. These 10 young men have performed at well throughout the year in both state and national events landing them on this prestigious list. The 2022 class has a ton of balance at the top with the top 10 being broken down as 2 middle infielder, 2 catchers, 2 outfielders, 2 left-handed pitchers and 2 right-handed pitchers. Holding on at No. 1 in this class is SS/RHP Gavin Guidry from Barbe HS. He's joined by two prospects from rival Sam Houston HS in Texas A&M recruit No. 5 Luke Yuhasz and No. 8 Ashton Fuselier. Rounding out the top 5 are OF Harland Zeb Ruddell from Neville HS, Louisiana State recruit C Ethan Frey from Rosepine HS, and MIF Tyler LeJeune from Iota HS.

Gavin Guidry SS / RHP / Barbe, LA / 2022Currently ranked No. 1 in Louisiana's 2022 class, No. 40 Overall. Athletic 6-foot-2, 167-pound frame with lean build, and plenty of room to add strength. Extremely advanced defender with soft hands, athletic actions, fluid footwork with quick, clean exchanges and plays through the baseball athletically. Short arm action into high-3/4 release with easy carry and accuracy on throws across the diamond that posted a positional velocity of 90 mph. Instincts and feel to play defense with range to both sides, timing and arm strength to finish plays. Right-handed hitter that hits from balanced, athletic setup with simple, smooth load, short stride, and maintains balance throughout the swing. Line-drive approach with fluid, athletic rhythm, showing simple, direct path to the baseball. Showed ability to hit to all fields with bat speed that posted an exit velocity of 88 mph. Put together outstanding at-bats all weekend, consistent hard contact, handling velocity and secondary stuff all weekend. Quality athleticism, posted a laser-timed 6.84 60-yard dash. Guidry was off to a fast start this spring. Playing for Barbe, you're always surrounded by top-end talent which means Guidry was asked to play multiple positions for his high school team from first-base to outfield. The most impressive part of his game was his ability to have an impact on games both defensively and with the bat regardless of which position he was manning on a given day. Here's video of a pull-side homer from early this spring. Guidry is also a high-end prospect on the mound, athletic, easy delivery with low effort to show off a quality three-pitch mix sitting 85-88 mph topping out at 90 with his fastball. Breaking ball showed 11/5 shape with solid spin and command at 74-75 mph while his change showed good arm side fade and solid command with the makings of a quality third pitch at 77-80.

Harland Zeb Ruddell OF / LHP / Neville, LA / 2022Currently ranked No. 2 in Louisiana's 2022 class, No. 134 Overall. Athletic 6-foot, 180-pound frame, strong, physical build. One of the premier hitters in Louisiana’s 2022 class, has showed advanced strength offensively early in his high school career. Left-handed hitter that hits from balanced, athletic setup, leg lift stride with smooth load. Athletic and confident in the box. Fluid, athletic rhythm with advanced bat speed, strength at contact and feel for the barrel. Gap-to-gap approach, consistent hard, loud contact with on-plane path, creates solid leverage in swing, produced a 91 mph exit velocity. Athletic defender with soft hands, fluid footwork, clean exchanges and plays through balls athletically. Long arm action into high-3/4 release with accuracy and carry on throws that produced a positional velocity of 86 mph.
Left-handed pitcher showed a long arm action with a slight stab on backend, and quick arm speed from a high-3/4 release. Smooth rhythm, level shoulders, lands square, and finishes occasionally falling off to the first base side. Pitched 83-86 mph with his fastball, showed life to the arm side run and solid control in the strike zone. Breaking ball showed 1/7 shape with solid spin, depth, command and near fastball arm speed at 68-78 mph. Showed changeup with fastball arm speed, deception and fade action at 74-76 mph.

Ethan Frey C / 1B / Rosepine, LA / 2022Louisiana State recruit. Currently ranked No. 3 in Louisiana's 2022 class, No. 198 Overall. Long, strong 6-foot-3 190-pound frame with room to fill out. Right-handed hitter hits from a tall, balanced setup using a small stride step to create quality separation, slightly uphill, on-plane path, generates solid bat speed with advanced strength in swing. Took a strong round of batting practice, producing an exit velocity of 92 mph. Showed solid catch and throw skills, solid receiver, clean exchanges into a compact, whipping arm action with carry on throws, producing consistent pop times of 2.15-2.19 and a positional velocity of 77 mph. Athletic catcher posted a 7.04 60-yard dash. |
Tyler LeJeune SS / 2B / Iota, LA / 2022Currently ranked No. 4 in Louisiana's 2022 class, No. 200 Overall. Strong 5-foot-9, 170 pound frame with physical, athletic build. Advanced left-handed hitter, makes consistent, quality contact. Starts from a tall and slightly open set-up with a leg lift and short stride. Exceptional rhythm with a gap-to-gap approach, works through contact with an aggressive lower half and on-plane path. Highly advanced bat speed with quality strength at contact posting an 86 mph exit velocity. Solid defender with athletic actions, average hands and fluid footwork. Flashed solid arm strength with carry and accuracy on throws, posting a positional velocity of 82 mph. Solid athlete, ran a 6.94 60-yard dash. |
Luke Yuhasz OF / RHP / Sam Houston , LA / 2022Texas A&M recruit. Currently ranked No. 5 in Louisiana's 2022 class, No. 368 Overall. Physical 6-foot-4, 200-pound frame, athletic build, clear present strength throughout frame. Advanced tools for his age, above average athleticism for his size, has posted a 6.80 60-yard dash. Right-handed hitter with elite bat speed and strength at contact for his age, shows present raw power to his pull side, ball jumps off the bat. Still learning to be a complete hitter, can chase balls out of the zone at times, but should begin to cut down on swing-and-misses as he continues to progress. Fluid defender, moves well with clean actions and exchanges, shows above average arm strength with carry and accuracy on throws. Dual sport athlete - plays quarterback for the football team. Big tools with a high ceiling, could be a fast riser in the coming years as he continues to polish and refine his game. |
Dwayne (DJ) Primeaux LHP / OF / Central, LA / 2022Currently ranked No. 6 in Louisiana's 2022 class, No. 397 Overall. Athletic 5-foot-10, 175-pound frame, solid build with room to add strength. Athletic, slightly rotational delivery, short arm action into high-¾ release, quick arm speed, minimal effort, hides release point well with strong front side, and creates deception. Pitched 84-85 mph with fastball, showed slight arm-side run, strike thrower, uses both sides of plate. Showed solid feel for breaking ball, tight rotation with solid 2/8 shape at 72-75 mph, steals strikes and creates soft contact with it, not a true swing-and-miss pitch at this stage yet. Showed advanced feel for changeup at 76-79 mph, maintained fastball arm speed, consistent slot, deceptive with late fade action, induced bad swings and weak contact. |
Haydan Toal LHP / 1B / Tioga, LA / 2022Currently ranked No. 7 in Louisiana's 2022 class, No. 408 Overall. Athletic 6-foot, 165-pound frame, strong build, room to add strength. Athletic, slightly rotational delivery, short arm action into high-¾ release, quick arm speed, minimal effort, hides release point well with strong front side, and creates deception. Pitched 82-84 mph with fastball, showed slight arm-side run, strike thrower, uses both sides of the plate. Showed solid feel for breaking ball, tight rotation with solid 2/8 shape at 69-72 mph, steals strikes and creates soft contact with it, not a true swing-and-miss pitch at this stage yet. Showed advanced feel for changeup at 76-79 mph, maintained fastball arm speed, consistent slot, deceptive with late fade action, induced bad swings and weak contact.

Ashton Fuselier C / OF / Sam Houston , LA / 2022Currently ranked No. 8 in Louisiana's 2022 class, No. 413 Overall. Solid 5-foot-11, 155-pound frame with room to add strength. Physical build with a defined lower half. Advanced defender flashed elite level catch and throw skills behind the dish. Shows fluid, athletic hips, soft hands, quick, fluid footwork, and clean, quick transfers with arm strength, carry, and accuracy on throws. Posted an event best 1.93-seconds pop-time and 76 mph positional velocity. Right-handed hitter hits from a tall, balanced setup, moderate leg kick, solid rhythm and timing. Shows quality bat speed and strength posting an 84 mph exit velocity. Athleticism was evident in outfield workout showing fluid actions and exchanges into a longer arm action and high-¾ slot posting an 87 mph positional velocity. Solid athlete posted a 7.00 60-yard dash. |
Zeph Arnold RHP / Sacred Heart Ville Platte , LA / 2022College of Charleston recruit. Currently ranked No. 9 in Louisiana's 2022 class, No. 453 Overall. Lean 6-foot-1, 175-pound right-handed pitcher that continues to raise his stock. The junior produced an event high 90 mph fastball with an athletic delivery, a longer, clean arm action working into a high-3/4 slot with quality arm speed, solid balance and minimal effort. Arnold showed off a quality three-pitch mix with a clean delivery with smooth rhythm and level shoulders landing square working downhill with good direction and solid finish. Fastball sat 86-90 mph with occasional arm side life. Breaking ball showed 11/5 shape with solid spin and solid command at 71-75 mph. Also flashed advanced feel for a changeup with quality arm side fade at 78-82 mph. |
Jimmie Johnson RHP / 3B / Central, LA / 2022Currently ranked No. 10 in Louisiana's 2022 class, No. 481 Overall. Wiry 5-foot-11, 155-pound frame, athletic build, room to add strength. Athletic, clean delivery, fluid rhythm, level shoulders, in-line direction, lands square and athletic. Long arm action into a high-3/4 slot, solid arm speed with little effort. Strike thrower, competitive kid, attacks the zone with a quality two-pitch mix. Pitches 83-85 mph with his fastball, shows advanced command, moves it in-and-out at will, shows good finish with life. Curveball flashed solid shape with average depth and downward action at 68-71 mph. Also showed feel for a slider that has the makings of an out-pitch, 11/5 shape with tight rotation, depth, and sharp, late break at 73-75 mph. Decent feel for a changeup with near fastball arm speed and fade action at 68-69 mph. Right-handed hitter that hits from balanced, stacked setup, slightly bent over at waist. Simple load with short stride, maintains balance throughout the swing. Line-drive approach, flashes solid rhythm, level path through the zone with solid bat speed, posted 81 mph exit velocity. Corner infield profile, solid defender with average hands and actions. Clean exchanges with solid footwork, flashes solid instincts and feel to play infield. Medium arm action into high-3/4 release with accuracy and carry on throws across, posted 85 mph positional velocity. Also posted 7.59-second 60-yard dash. |
