Team Summary
St. Louis has had to deal with a tough off-season that has included two hurricanes within a span of 42 days and a recent recent winter storm, on top of the pandemic. The Saints reached at least the quarterfinal round from 2016 to 2018, losing in the state title game in 2017 to Teurlings Catholic. Head Coach Matt Fontenot really likes his 2021 squad that will feature a good core of prospects hitting in the middle of the order and it all starts with Evan Joubert. The senior SS is well on his way to having a great senior campaign, as he has already collected a couple of homeruns in pre-season action. Coach Fontenot believes that Joubert can stick at SS at the next level and is a major threat offensively, as he has the ability to hit for average, power, and has speed to create chaos on the base paths. Junior Ryan Baron, a 2020 PBR Future Games participants, will man CF for the Saints this spring and will also be relied upon on the mound with his mid-upper 80's FB. Sophomores Reid Snider and Jake LaRocca will also be key pieces to the Saints offensive attack. Snider is a physical RHH 3B that has the ability to drive the ball to all fields. LaRocca recently made a position change to the catcher spot and Coach Fontenot believes that he has really embraced the change and will have a great sophomore year. On the mound, the St. Louis will rely heavily on senior Parker Morgan who is a Nicholls State University signee. The southpaw will run his FB into the mid-80's, but is more known for pitching off of his CB and CH that allows the FB to play up. Junior Thomas Watson is recovering from an injury and the Saints are optimistic that he will be able to return to the mound some time during the middle of this spring. Upon his return, St. Louis will have a lefty trio consisting of Morgan, Watson, and Baron, and that should bode well for the Saints heading into district play and the playoffs. Combining that pitching staff with what looks to be a solid St. Louis lineup; the Saints may very well make some heads turn come late-April and early-May, as they look to make a deep post-season run in 2021.
