Team Summary
Sam Houston High School has enjoyed recent success under Head Coach-Chad Hebert. The Broncos lost in the semi-finals in 2017 and 2018 to Central High School and Sulphur High School. The 2019 season saw Sam Houston square off against district rival Barbe for the Class 5A State Title; losing to the Bucs by a score of 8-2. Coach Hebert looks to keep that momentum going in 2021 behind an athletic and talented lineup. Junior Luke Yuhasz was a standout performer for the Broncos on the football field and will look to do the same thing on the diamond. The Texas A&M commit will man CF for Sam Houston and will hit in the middle of the order. Another Texas A&M commit and 2020 PBR Future Games attendee, Dylan Thompson, will be on of the underclassmen that the Broncos will heavily rely on playing 3B. Senior SS Jordan Thompson, a Nicholls State signee, will provide the Broncos with veteran leadership and consistent, steady defense. Catching is an important position for all teams and Coach Hebert will have two good ones in 2021. Junior Andrew Class, a Green Wave baseball commit, and Junior Ashton Fuselier, another 2020 PBR Future Games attendee, will both see time catching and will both be everyday staples in the Broncos lineup. Most recently, in 2019, Sam Houston finished as state runner-up thanks in large part to a very good pitching staff led by Cameron Meeks (McNeese State University) and Kyle Bartley (Southeastern Louisiana University). The Broncos will have to rely on some new names on the mound this year. Senior LHP Dallas Rhodes and Sophomore LHP Carson Devillier are two names to keep an eye on. Coach Hebert will have his guys ready to go in 2021, especially their offense, as they will be able to score runs in a lot of different ways. District 3-5A is known to be one of, if not, the best baseball district in the state. Rival schools such as Barbe, Sulphur, and Lafayette, all have a bonified #1 starter on the mound. The Broncos offense will have to lead the way early in the season, as the pitching rotation becomes more solidified. If Sam Houston can figure out their staff and have some guys step up on the mound, then we might see the Broncos make another run in 2021.
