Team Summary
Coach David George's Parkway High School 2019 team made a post-season run to the semi-finals, eventually losing to Sam Houston High School, and his 2020 ball club looked to be well on the way to making another run, before the season was eventually cancelled. Pitching will headline this 2021 roster and it all starts with Senior RHP Hayden Knotts, who is Northwestern State University signee. Knotts was an All-State selection as a sophomore, in 2019, and was named District MVP as a pitcher. His experience doesn't stop on the mound, as the senior will also play shortstop and hit at the top of a strong Parkway lineup. Complimenting Knotts on the mound will be the sophomore duo of Trenton Lape and Brandon Levy. Lape sat 91-92 mph, topping out at 93 mph at a recent scrimmage on February 9th. Levy was also sitting 90 mph at that same scrimmage and has a near "12-6" shaped breaking ball as his best secondary pitch. These two sophomores will also be key bats in the Panthers order this spring and offer the club versatility on defense, as both guys have the ability to play pretty much anywhere on the diamond. Fellow sophomores, Barrett Newman and Zach Schoenborn, should also have key roles in 2021. Newman is an athletic LHH OF who has present pull-side power and should have the opportunity to drive in runs. Schoenborn is a physical LHH catcher that we had the chance to see at the PBR All-State Games in November, and he did not disappoint; showing gap to gap power, consistently squaring up balls during his BP round. Talented senior Gabriel Larry will be the anchor of the defense, playing CF for the Panthers, as well as hitting in the middle of the order. District 1-5A has plenty of talented players with the likes of Peyton Stovall (Arkansas Signee) at Haughton and a host of other players across Benton, Byrd, and Airline. However, as a whole, this Parkway team looks to be every bit as talented as their 2019 team, possibly more talented. Expectations were high last season and Coach George believes that this team has a lot to prove this spring and we believe that they will, as they should make another deep post-season run in 2021.
