Team Summary
Coach Beatty and the Fighting Tigers of Doyle High School had a historic season in 2019, as they set the school record for most wins and made it to their first state championship game in Class 2A (*2001-Class B State Championship Game appearance). Expectations are high for Doyle in 2021 and the team hasn't shied away from it. Coach Beatty told us, "The goal is to return to the state championship game and win it. Fans should expect a lot of wins." Experience, all around the diamond, is definitely going to help the Fighting Tigers this spring. Looking at the guys on the mound and sticking with the them of "experience", we'll take a look at Senior Andrew Yuratich. As a sophomore in 2019, Yuratich led Doyle to the state title game by throwing a complete game in the semi-finals. That experience on the mound, in the big stage, should definitely help the club in 2021. Senior Cade Lyons is the first of many talented position players on this 2021 roster. Lyons, a top 25 SS in the 2021 state rankings, boasts a 6.87 60 time, 88 mph INF velo, 93 mph OF velo, and 93 mph exit velo. A lot of these numbers were from 6-12 months ago, so we expect the 5'11" 175 lbs. SS to be even more impressive this spring. Junior Braden McLin showed well at our Louisiana Preseason ID last month, especially with his bat, as he posted a max exit velo of 94 mph. Sophomore Peyton Woods was also in attendance. The Texas A&M commit displayed his smooth LH stroke with some present pull-side power. St. Thomas Aquinas and Springfield are also in District 10-2A, which should provide for some exciting baseball. The Fighting Tigers return all of their key contributors from their 2019 team that set multiple school records, and we expect more of the same this spring.
