Team Summary
Coach Mark Carroll has fielded very competitive teams over the course of his 35+ year career in Louisiana. Expectations for Denham Springs heading into the 2021 season are at an all-time high and for good reason, as the Yellow Jackets possess one of their most talented rosters in quite some time. On the mound, Coach Carroll believes he has two front-line starters in Senior Carter Holstein and Junior Larson Fabre. Holstein, a Hutchinson Community College signee, is one of the more "under the radar" names in 5A baseball. He will run his FB into the upper 80's, and being a senior, he has the varsity experience to lead the staff this spring. Larson Fabre, a University of Houston commit, is the #5 ranked LHP in the state rankings. The southpaw wont overpower you, as his FB sits in the low 80's. Fabre tends to lean on his complete arsenal of pitches that includes a CB, CH, and SL. Senior LHP Lane Dudley, a Centenary signee, is another southpaw that should log meaningful innings for the Yellow Jackets, as the rest of the staff takes form. Offensively, the Yellow Jackets will be lead by 3 year starter Reese Smith. The senior SS, who is a Holmes Community College signee, is the #8 SS in the 2021 state rankings. Oddly enough, there is another "Reese" that will be a name to know heading into this season for the Yellow Jackets. Sophomore Reese Mooney, a University of Houston commit, is another athletic MIF who looks to be the next great infielder from the school that has seen guys like Cade Doughty, who is now an infielder for Louisiana State University. District 4-5A is loaded with guys on the mound. Live Oak has a 3 headed monster of LHP's in Ethan Prescott (BRCC Signee), Tanner Roberts, and Dawson Curtin. Central BR has their two premier guys in D.J. Primeaux (LSU commit) and Jimmie Johnson (Southeastern LA commit). Then you have teams such as Zachary and Walker that you know are going to be scrappy and very tough to beat. Good news for Denham Springs and Coach Carroll is they have their two front line guys on the mound. The talented, but mostly inexperienced lineup, will continue to get better and better as the season moves along and this year's 2021 Yellow Jackets are ready to make a return trip to Sulphur, LA in May.
