2018 PBR All-State: Third Team Selections

The 2018 high school season ended last week with the high school state championships in Sulphur, LA. Two weeks ago we released the Prep Baseball Report Louisiana First Team All-State selections, which you can view HERE. And last week we release the Second Team All-State selections, which you can view HERE. Today, our scouting staff releases the Third Team All-State Selections.
The PBR All-State teams consists of one catcher, four infielders, three outfielders, designated hitter, Utility and three pitchers. As well, the selections include the entire state of Louisiana, regardless of classification of the high school.
Here is the 2018 Prep Baseball Report Louisiana All-State Third Team:
Pitchers
Ian Landreneau RHP / John Curtis , LA / 2018Rankings StateRank: 80 / POS: 16
Finished the year 8-0 with a 1.03 ERA, striking out 60 batters in 54.1 innings pitched. Mississippi Gulf Coast CC recruit. Average 5-foot-11, 160-pound frame with room to add strength and size. Long arm action with slight stab on backend into high-3/4 release with average arm speed and moderate effort. Some rhythm, uphill shoulders and in-line direction. Fastball sat 82-84 mph with slight life and control within the strike zone. Breaking ball showed 12/6 shape with solid spin and depth at 73-74 mph. Also showed a changeup with fastball arm speed and arm side run at 77-78 mph. |
Jacob Hammond RHP / Ouachita, LA / 2018Rankings StateRank: 25 / POS: 7
Finished the year 5-4 with a 1.50 ERA, collecting 94 strikeouts in 70 innings of work. LSU-Eunice CC recruit. Large 6-foot-3, 230-pound frame, strong lower half, hulking figure. Long arm action into high-3/4 release, more arm strength than arm speed and regular effort. Smooth rhythm, level shoulders, in-line direction, lands square and finishes athletic. Fastball sat 87-89 mph with heavy sink, quality angle, and strikes. Breaking ball showed 11/5 shape with sharp break, fastball arm speed, tight spin and depth at 73-77 mph. Also showed feel for changeup with fastball arm speed and fade action at 78-79 mph. |
Destin Dotson LHP / Scotlandville Magnet, LA / 2018Tulane recruit. Lanky, highly projectable 6-foot-7, 225-pound frame, athletic build with long levers and room to add strength. Left-handed pitcher with long, loose arm action into high-3/4 release with quick arm speed, solid balance and easy effort. Some rhythm, level shoulders, in-line direction, lands square and finishes athletic. Fastball tipped at 91 mph while sitting 86-88 mph with arm side run and solid control. Breaking ball showed 2/8 shape with gradual break, occasional tight spin, depth and fastball arm speed at 70-74 mph. Also showed a changeup with fastball arm speed and arm side run at 77-79 mph. |
Catcher
Silas Ardoin C / Sam Houston, LA / 2019Rankings StateRank: 35 / POS: 4
Finished the year hitting .340 with 15 doubles, and 14 RBI. Louisiana Tech recruit. Stocky 5-foot-10, 180-pound frame, athletic build. Right-handed hitter that starts from tall, stacked setup with hands starting above shoulders. Subtle leg lift load, with length in stride and lands balanced. Line-drive approach with fluid rhythm, level path into an uphill finish and bat speed that produced an exit velocity of 82 mph. Quality defender with soft hands, fluid, efficient footwork, and quick, clean transfers. Short arm action into high-¾ release with accuracy and carry on throws that produced a positional velocity of 76 mph, and a pop time of 2.03-seconds. Also posted a 7.25 60-yard dash. |
Infield
Rhett Hebert 2B / Zachary, LA / 2018Rankings StateRank: 33 / POS: 2
Finished the year hitting .446 with a .536 OBP, 15 doubles, 47 runs scored, 28 RBI, and 30 stolen bases. Southern recruit. Plays with a high-level of energy, has an extensive player history, consistently producing over the length of his career. Athletic 5-foot-10, 170-pound frame, lean build with room to add strength. Right-handed hitter hitting from tall, open, athletic setup with high hands. Simple, smooth load with a leg kick, but maintain outstanding balance. Fluid rhythm with line-drive, gap-to-gap approach, level path that creates extension and bat speed that produced an exit velocity of 87 mph. Infielder with soft hands, showing fluid footwork, quick, clean exchanges, and plays through the ball athletically. Short arm action into high-3/4 release with accuracy and carry on throws, recording a positional velocity of 85 mph. Showed athleticism running a 6.79 60-yard dash. |
Connor Simon SS / St. Pauls, LA / 2021Louisiana State recruit. Athletic 5-foot-11, 145-pound frame with lean, wiry build and room to add strength. Premium, elite-level defender with soft hands, fluid footwork, and quick, clean exchanges. Short arm action into high-3/4 release with accuracy and carry on throws across the diamond. Right-handed hitter that hits from athletic setup, smooth load, short stride, solid lower half and balance. Line-drive type hitter with fluid rhythm, short path, solid approach and bat speed.

Jarrett McDonald 3B / Sterlington , LA / 2018Rankings StateRank: 35 / POS: 3
Finished the year hitting .480 with 13 doubles, eight home runs, 49 runs scored, and 43 RBI. LSU-Eunice CC recruit. A 5-foot-10, 193-pound outfielder and infielder with a strong, athletic frame. Left-handed hitter that hits from balanced, athletic setup, smooth load, leg kick, solid lower half, and quality balance. Line-drive, gap to gap type hitter with fluid rhythm, level path, and bat speed that produced an exit velocity of 84 mph. Solid defender with average hands, fluid footwork, clean exchanges and plays through balls well. Long arm action into high-3/4 release with accuracy on throws and a positional velocity of 81 mph from outfield and 79 mph from infield. Also posted a 7.30 60-yard dash. |

Extremely athletic defender, with tracking instincts, soft hands, above average runner, and shows the ability to remain in centerfield as he advances in the game. Left-handed hitter that hits from balanced, athletic setup with smooth load and short stride. Gap-to-gap approach with fluid rhythm, and has a presence in the box. Simple, powerful stroke with level, on-plane path and premium bat speed. |
Keilon Brown OF / Zachary, LA / 2020Finished the year hitting .372 with a .423 OBP, 18 doubles, 40 runs scored, 37 RBI, and 20 stolen bases. Wiry 6-foot, 175-pound frame with long limbs, athletic build and room to add strength. Finished the day Highly athletic right-handed hitting outfielder with bat speed, strength at contact, that flashes loose, whippy power to both gaps. Gives consistent home-to-1st times of 4.1 – 4.2-seconds, and shows plus run tool underway. |

Designated Hitter
Christopher Collet C / Holy Cross , LA / 2018Rankings StateRank: 47 / POS: 4
Finished the year hitting .426 with a 1.302 OPS, 13 doubles, six home runs, 40 runs scored, 39 RBI, and 20 stolen bases. Panola CC recruit. Hulking 6-foot, 195-pound frame, defined strength in wrists and forearms, and powerful lower half. Showed athleticism running a 6.83 60-yard dash. Showed improved catching ability, presenting strong target with improved flexibility in hips and average hands while receiving. Clean transfers into short, stiff arm action with carry on throws, recorded a 75 mph positional velocity with a pop time ranging 2.05-2.11. Right-handed hitter that hits from tall setup with tension in the load and short stride. Stiff rhythm, level to slightly uphill path with quality bat speed and strength at contact, posted an exit velocity of 86 mph. |
Utility
Kasten Furr SS / Ruston , LA / 2019Rankings StateRank: 41 / POS: 13
Finished the year hitting .356 with .455 OBP, five doubles, 25 runs scored, 29 RBI, and 10 stolen bases. Also went 7-2 with two saves, a 1.96 ERA, and collected 40 strikeouts In 46.1 innings of work. New Orleans recruit. Average 5-foot-10, 170-pound with athletic frame. Outstanding defender with soft hands, smooth actions, quick, fluid footwork, and quick, clean exchanges. Short arm action into high-3/4 release with accuracy on throws that produced a positional velocity of 78 mph. Right-handed hitter that hits from balanced, athletic setup, smooth load, short stride, solid lower half and excellent balance.
