With one week in the books on the 2024 high school season, it’s time for us to announce the first edition of our Pitcher of The Week award.

This weekly award will be announced each Tuesday for the previous week’s games.

In addition to selecting a Pitcher of the Week, we will also select several players from the nominations to comprise an honorable mention list for the week.

This week we received a big number of nominations with performances certainly worthy of consideration, but as we combed through the stats for games played last week, we ultimately settled on one player for our first Pitcher of Week in 2024.

Leighton Harris, pitching in his first high school baseball game in nearly two years, came out of the gate in dominant fashion firing five shutout innings at South Oldham. The Kentucky commit’s final stat line: 5 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 14 K.

Harris also made sure to record the 15th out of his five-inning stint, picking a runner off first base who had reached via a walk. He generated plenty of swing-and-miss with a high-80’s fastball coupled with a wipeout curveball/slider combination.

For his outstanding performance on the field, Leighton Harris has been selected as the PBR Kentucky Pitcher of the Week for March 11-17.
