Nolan Simpkins, OF, Butler HS
Simpkins is a 5-foot-11, 175-pound OF who shows the tools necessary to play center field at the next level and incorporates his 6.75-second 60-yard speed well into his game both offensively and defensively.
At the plate, the left-handed hitter hits from a slightly open setup with a short stride. He uses good hip torque in his swing and creates some lift in showing some power to all fields while registering a top exit velocity of 91 mph. Once on the base paths, Simpkins puts pressure on the defense with his speed and aggressive base running. He registered a 4.02 home to first time at the Top Prospect Games in June, the fastest time of the event.
Defensively, Simpkins plays through the ball well with athletic feet and takes good routes to the baseball. He has room to improve his 77 mph arm strength, but he shows an accurate arm with consistent online throws.
Look for Simpkins to once again be a key performer for Butler this coming spring.
