Unsigned Senior Series: Top Ranked Catchers

It's the time of year where fall ball is coming to an end, and there are many quality unsigned seniors still on the board. Over the next few weeks, we will take a look at some players by position group who have the chance to make an immediate impact for college programs as freshmen in 2019. Today, here is a look at seven available catchers who are ranked in the top 100 players in the class.

Brent Lovell C / Rockcastle County, KY / 2018
1/16/17 - 60 Time: 7.25, Position Velocity: C-79, Pop Time: 1.92-2.00, Exit Velocity: 96 5-foot-11, 190-pound RHH, Starts in an athletic, open setup at the plate. Lower half works well. Hands are rhythmic and create excellent barrel whip through the zone. A strong kid with a fast bat. Showed gap to gap pop in batting practice. Middle of the order type guy. Behind the plate he showed athletic, mechanically sound footwork. Exchange skills are there. Impressive arm strength and accuracy.

Tyler Grigalis C / Lexington Catholic, KY / 2018
2/12/17 - 60 Time: 7.27, Pop Time: 2.00-2.06, Position Velocity: C-78, Exit Velocity: 87 5-foot-11, 180-pound LHH starts open and squares up with a slight leg kick and short stride, loose and fluid swing with a short path and good extension through contact allows him to drive the baseball with regularity, made loud contact in a good round of BP, solid catch and throw guy who continues to show pop times in the 2.0 range with solid footwork, athletic behind the plate, one of the top left-handed hitting catchers in the 2018 class.

Chase Patton C / St Xavier, KY / 2018
6/14/17 - 60 Time: 6.91, Pop Time: 1.90-2.00, Position Velocity: C-79, OF-84, Exit Velocity: 85 5-foot-10, 170-pound, athletic catcher, runs well for the position, RHH starts open and uses a slight leg kick into stride, uses lower half well and has an aggressive approach, has impressive gap power for size. Defensively is solid all-around, very good catch and throw ability with good arm strength and accuracy. Patton will bring a good combination of offensive and defensive ability to the next level.

Alex Kennedy C / Covington Catholic, KY / 2018
6/15/16 - 60 Time: 7.46, Pop Time: 1.94-2.00, Position Velocity: C-74, Exit Velocity: 86 6-foot-2, 205-pound RHH with strong and physical frame. Hits from a balanced stance, short stride, short swing path with frame-generated bat speed, line drive type hitter with gap to gap approach, went 0-for-3 in game play reaching base once on an error. Shows very good catch and throw ability behind the plate, with a quick release and solid footwork, registered consistent sub-2.0 pop times with accurate throws. Kennedy adds to the depth of the 2018 catching class.

Tanner Head C / Eastern, KY / 2018
2/12/17 - 60 Time: 7.16, Pop Time: 1.90-1.96, Position Velocity: C-75, OF-90, Exit Velocity: 84 6-foot-1, 165-pound RHH with wiry/athleticframe continues to improve at each event. Starts open and uses a leg kick into an aggressive, fairly deep hand load, shows hand quickness in swing, creates some lift at contact with current gap to gap pop, could develop into more of a power threat as he adds to frame. Has quick and active feet behind the plate, efficient exchange and release leads to good workout pop times, good arm strength, atheleticism plays in the outfield as well where he flashed premium arm strength.

Hunter Mason C / Boyle County , KY / 2018
6/14/17 - 60 Time: 7.23, Pop Time: 1.91-2.00, Position Velocity: C-76, Exit Velocity: 82 Physically strong 6-foot, 205-pound RHH. Starts open and gets square with a short/controlled stride, loose hands produce some barrel whip through the zone, god rounf of BP with consistent line drive contact and gap to gap approach, went 1-for-2 in game play with a single. Solid defender behind the plate, arm strength has improved with same quick transfer, strong accurate throws to the bag. Very solid all-around player.

Dane Milby C / LaRue County, KY / 2018
6/14/17 - 60 Time: 7.28, Pop Time: 1.90-1.95, Position Velocity: C-77, Exit Velocity: 83 5-foot-10, 175-pound RHH hits from a spread stance, loads up on backside and transfers weight with no stride, hs a fairly compact swing, produced a lot of line drive contact to right-center in BP. Shows good athleticism behind the plate, Good arm strength produced impressive showcase pop times with strong and mostly accurate throws.
