Unsigned Senior Games: Team White Position Player Analysis

The Unsigned Senior Games event saw more than 80 uncommitted class of 2015 players convene at Northern Kentucky University on August 16-17.  The following is a look at all position players who took the field for Team White during the event.  This is position player analysis only.  Those players who also pitched at the event had their pitching analysis in a previous article.  It should be noted that RHP/OF Matthew Neal committed to Bellarmine University following the event.

middle infielders

Charles Loveall, SS, Floyd Central HS (IN), 2015
5-foot-10, 160-pound right handed hitter, starts in a slightly open stance with high hands, uses a leg kick with an aggressive stride, incorporates lower half, flat bat path produces solid line drive contact, went 2-for-4 in game play with a single up the middle, infield single, and SAC fly, showed speed posting a 4.41 home to first base time, 80 mph tee exit velocity.  Showed soft hands defensively and works through the baseball, good range and body control, accurate throws across the infield from a high ¾ release, top velocity of 78 mph.

Sam Jiunta, SS, Henry Clay HS, 2015
5-foot-9, 165-pound left-handed hitting MIF, balanced stance with short stride, good balance throughout swing, line drive hitter, makes hard contact to the gaps, 81 mph tee exit velocity (have seen at 88 at previous event), went 0-for-4 in game play with one strikeout.  Shows fluid defensive actions with good lateral movement, very good ability to throw on the move with good body control, gets rid of the ball with short arm action, accurate arm at 76 mph across the infield, posted 4.60 home to first base time.

Noah Galvin, 2B, Covington Catholic HS, 2015
6-foot, 165-pound right-handed hitter, uses a balanced stance with a toe tap, good balance, showed ability to make hard contact to all field in batting practice, went 0-for-4 in game play, 79 mph tee exit velocity. Showed athletic defensive actions and works through the baseball, good range to both sides, loose arm with high ¾ release, event best 84 mph arm across the infield with mostly accurate throws, posted a 4.66 home to first base time.

Zack Grogan, RHP/2B, Murray HS, 2015
5-foot-10, 165-pound right handed hitter, hits from a spread stance with no stride, short swing path, can incorporate more consistent use of lower half, line drive type hitter works the middle of the field, consistently barreled the baseball in batting practice, went 1-for-4 in game play with a single up the middle.  Showed good range defensively with soft hands, high ¾ release, top velocity of 76 mph across the infield with some accurate throws.  Posted 4.75 home to first base time and 77 mph tee exit velocity.

corner infielders

Mason Stamm, 1B, Danville HS, 2015
6-foot-2, 190-pound left-handed hitter, athletic frame, hits from a tall and open stance with medium stride, swing is easy and loose, shows power to the pull-side with good bat speed through the zone, 91 mph tee exit velocity (second best of event), went 2-for-4 in game play with two singles to right field.  Shows athleticism defensively at first base, good feet and hands, 83 mph arm across the infield, athleticism allows for move to corner outfield spot at the next level, versatile player.  Posted a 4.48 home to first base time.

Jonathan Breeden, RHP/3B, Dixie Heights HS, 2015
5-foot-11, 183-pound right-handed hitter, balanced stance with a toe tap, uses all fields well with a line drive approach, hit well in game play going 3-for-5 with a single and double to left and infield single.  Showed good arm strength across the infield at 84 mph with carry, accurate throws, showed good hands in fielding everything cleanly, posted a 4.82 home to first base time and 71 mph tee exit velocity.

Logan Burnett, LHP/1B, Apollo Hs, 2015
6-foot-1, 198-pound left-handed hitter, tall/square stance with minimal stride, line drive type hitter with pull approach, average bat speed, 76 mph tee exit velocity, went 0-for-4 in game play making contact in each at bat to the pull side. Showed soft hands and good movement around the first base bag, accurate arm at 74 mph across the infield.  Posted a 4.84 home to first base time.

Joseph Martin, RHP/1B, Highlands HS, 2015
6-foot, 200-pound right-handed hitter with strong frame, crouched setup with front foot turned in, short stride, hands load back to shoulder level, has a gap to gap approach with some power to the pull side, 81 mph tee exit velocity, went 0-for-3 in game play with two strikeouts.  Showed soft hands and good feet around the first base bag, good arm strength at 81 mph across the infield. Posted a 5.03 home to first base time.

catchers

Cole Compton, C, Lafayette HS, 2015
6-foot, 160-pound left-handed hitter, open stance, squares front side with a medium stride, hands are loose and creates some barrel whip, gap to gap approach, went 2-for-5 in game play with a single up the middle, and infield single, and two strikeouts.  Defensively pop times ranged from 2.06-2.16, 71 mph arm strength from the crouch, all throws accurate to the second base bag.  Posted 4.78 home to first base time from the left side, 81 mph tee exit velocity.

Chris Crotzer, C, Collins HS, 2015
6-foot, 175-pound right-handed hitter, hits from balanced stance with short stride, short path to the ball with line drive production, occasional gap power, 86 mph tee exit velocity, went 1-for-4 in game play with a single to right field.  Defensivley showed solid receiving and blocking ability, 2.03-2.14 pop times on 72 mph arm strength from the crouch, accurate throws to the second base bag, posted a 4.94 home to first base time.

JT Lyon, C, Garrard County HS, 2015
6-foot, 200-pound right-handed hitter with strong frame, hits from a spread stance with no stride, has a short and compact swing, stays inside the baseball, maintains good balance, consistently barreled the baseball in batting practice, 84 mph tee exit velocity, went 2-for-4 in game play with single up the middle and line drive single to left.  Showed 72 mph arm strength from the crouch, short high ¾ release, 2.10-2.22 pop times, room to improve pop times with more accurate throws. Posted a 4.85 home to first base time.

Chance Egnor, C, North Bullitt HS, 2015
5-foot-10, 200-pound left-handed hitting catcher, strong/durable frame, hits from a balanced stance with short stride, slight uphill path to the ball, ability to make hard contact to all fields, shows some gap power, has strength in swing, 86 mph tee exit velocity, went 2-for-3 in game play with a single to left and double to center field.  Showed 74 mph arm strength from the crouch, mostly accurate throws to second base, pop times ranged from 2.19-2.22.  Posted a 4.81 home to first base time.

outfielders

Matthew Neal, RHP/OF, Tates Creek HS, 2015
6-foot-3, 210-pound right-handed hitter, strong and athletic frame, starts in tall and slightly open stance, gets to square with short stride, creates some lift with swing, shows power potential, 87 mph tee exit velocity, went 1-for-4 in game play with a single to right field, lined out hard in another AB.  Showed 83 mph arm strength from the outfield with online carry, clean exchanges, long arm action high ¾ slot.  Posted a 4.97 home to first base time.  Committed to Bellarmine University following the event.

Chase Bright, OF, Marshall County HS, 2015
5-foot-7, 140-pound right handed hitting outfielder, slightly open stance with a short stride, maintains good balance throughout, hands show some quickness, line drive type hitter with the ability to make hard contact to all fields, went 3-for-5 in game play with a single up the middle and two to right, incorporates speed in offensive game.  Plays through the ball in the outfield, showed 76 mph arm strength, very accurate throws to third base, posted event best 4.28 home to first base time, 85 mph tee exit velocity.

Blake Urbanek, OF, Henry Clay HS, 2015
6-foot-3, 160-pound OF, lanky frame with projection, right-handed hitter, balanced stance with short stride, level swing path, line drive production, showed the best bat speed we have seen to date from him with 86 mph tee exit velocity, went 0-for-5 in game play making contact in each at bat with a pull approach.  Defensively showed 78 mph arm strength with some accurate throws, ball tends to tail, plays through the ball with clean exchanges, posted 4.75 home to first base time.
