Unsigned Senior Games: Team Navy Position Player Analysis

The Unsigned Senior Games event saw more than 80 uncommitted class of 2015 players convene at Northern Kentucky University on August 16-17. The following is a look at all position players who took the field for Team Navy during the event. This is position player analysis only. Those players who also pitched at the event had their pitching analysis in a previous article.
middle infielders
Jeremy Lakes, SS, R/R, Madison Central HS, 2015
5-foot-9, 150-pound prospect posted a 4.59 home to first base time and 81 mph tee exit velocity. Right-handed hitter, open stance, leg kick with short stride, average bat speed, line drive type hitter, offensive game will benefit from additional strength, went 0-for-5 in game play with two strikeouts. Defensively showed some of the best infield actions of the event, soft hands, good lateral movement with quick feet, good body control, able to throw on the move from different arm angles, 84 mph arm across the infield with carry, plus defender.
Avery Lane, SS/RHP, R/R, St. Xavier HS, 2015
5-foot-9, 150-pound prospect posted a 4.85 home to first base time and 83 mph tee exit velocity. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, short stride, good use of lower half, hands show some quickness, line drive type hitter, went 0-for-3 in game play with a middle of the field approach. Defensively showed athletic infield actions, soft hands, fluid footwork, works through the baseball, quick exchange with short high ¾ release, 81 mph arm across the infield, accurate throws.
Cole Lyons, RHP/2B, R/R, Apollo HS, 2015
6-foot-2, 150-pound prospect, lanky frame with projection, posted 4.69 home to first base time and 78 mph tee exit velocity. Right-handed hitter, slightly open stance, short stride, level swing path with line drive production, flashes occasional power to the pull side, went 1-for-5 in game play with a home run to left field. Defensively showed soft hands, god lateral movement to both sides, quick exchange, short ¾ slot, 80 mph arm across the infield.
corner infielders
Tyler Neeley, 1B, R/R, Trinity HS, 2015
6-foot-2, 225-pound prospect, large and physical frame, posted a 4.75 home to first base time and 91 mph tee exit velocity. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, short stride, uses strong lower half well, some quickness in hands, shows power to all fields, went 1-for-4 in game play with single to left-center, potential middle-of-the-order bat at the next level. Defensively moves well around the first base bag, 79 mph arm across the infield, plays through the ball in the outfield, moves well for big guy, 79 mph arm strength from outfield, very accurate throws to third base.
Ben Wilhite, 3B/2B, R/R, Lexington Catholic HS, 2015
6-foot, 165 pound prospect, athletic frame, showed improved speed with 4.60 home to first base time and improved 86 mph tee exit velocity. Right-handed hitter, open stance, squares front side with short stride, good rhythm, level swing path, middle of the field approach, went 1-for-5 in game play with a stolen base. Defensively showed slightly improved arm strength at 75 mph, short high ¾ release, gets rid of ball quickly, soft hands, good lateral movement and body control, continues to make strides at each event.
Joey Collins, RHP/1B, R/R, New Albany HS (IN), 2015
6-foot, 185-pound prospect, posted a 5.09 home to first base time and 84 mph tee exit velocity. Right handed hitter, balanced stance, short stride, short swing path, uses strong lower half, flashes gap power, went 2-for-4 in game play with line drive singles to left and center and a SAC fly. Defensively showed soft hands, moves well around the first base bag, starts the double play well, 71 mph arm across the infield.
Nick Niehaus, RHP/1B, R/R, Dixie Heights HS, 2015
6-foot-3, 210-pound prospect, posted a 4.78 home to first base time and 81 mph tee exit velocity. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, leg kick with a short stride, level swing path, line drive production with some gap power, went 2-for-4 in game play with a double to left-center and bloop single to right. Defensively showed average hands at first base with 80 mph arm across the infield.
Jacob Frazier, 3B, R/R, Madison Central HS, 2015
6-foot, 185-pound prospect, physical build, posted a 4.72 home to first base time and 80 mph tee exit velocity. Right handed hitter, balanced stance, short stride, displays good balance, short swing path with extension through the baseball, impressed in batting practice showing some power to all fields, went 0-for-4 in game play with opposite field tendencies. Defensively showed good corner actions with soft hands, 73 mph arm strength across the infield with accurate throws.
catchers
Jake Schmidt, C, R/R, Beechwood HS, 2015
5-foot-10, 180-pound prospect, strong and athletic frame, posted a 4.62 home to first base time and 83 mph tee exit velocity. Right handed hitter, balanced and wide stance, minimal stride, maintains good balance throughout, line drive approach, flashes occasional gap power, went 3-for-5 in game play with single to left, single up the middle, and smoked double to right. Athletic catcher with good lateral movement behind the plate, receives and blocks well, showed 76 mph arm strength from the crouch, accurate throws to second base, pop times from 2.00-2.12, solid all-around game.
Cameron Watson, C, R/R, Eastern HS, 2015
5-foot-9, 180-pound prospect, sticky build with strong lower half, posted a 4.94 home to first base time and 87 mph tee exit velocity. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, toe tap with short stride, maintains very good balance throughout, generates above average bat speed, solid round of BP with hard line drives to all fields, went 1-for-5 in game play with a single to RF and two strikeouts. Defensively showed improved arm strength from previous event at 71 mph, mostly accurate throws, big improvement in pop times at 2.06-2.10, wasn’t completely healthy at previous event (pulled muscle) and showed better representation of ability at this event.
Noah Pike, C/3B, R/R, Daviess County HS, 2015
5-foot-11, 185-pound prospect, strong/athletic frame, posted a 5.00 home to first base time and 79 mph tee exit velocity. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, short stride, maintains good balance, some looseness in swing, line drive type hitter with gap-to-gap approach, went 1-for-5 in game play. Defensively showed 74 mph arm from the crouch, short over the top release, very accurate throws to the bag, 2.03-2.17 pop times, solid blocking skills.
outfielders
Ricky West, OF/RHP, R/R, Jeffersontown HS, 2015
5-foot-10, 193-pound prospect, strong build, posted a 4.69 home to first base time and 88 mph tee exit velocity. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, short stride, hands start high, maintains good balance, strong lower half, shows some power to the pull side, went 1-for-3 in game play with a single to left. Defensively showed athletic outfield actions, plays through the baseball well, loose arm, 82 mph arm strength with some accurate throws to the bag.
Justin Coffey, OF, L/L, Eastern HS, 2015
6-foot, 180-pound prospect, strong and athletic frame, posted a 4.44 home to first base time and 87 mph tee exit velocity. Left-handed hitter, wide base, minimal stride, displays good balance, shows pul-side power, went 1-for-4 with a triple in game play, has potential to be power left-handed bat at next level. Defensively uses a two-handed approach on ground balls, clean exchanges, 81 mph arm strength, very accurate throws to the third base bag.
Christian Helton, OF/2B, R/R, Bryan Station HS, 2015
6-foot-2, 160-pound prospect, lanky frame with projection, posted a 4.57 home to first base time and 76 mph tee exit velocity. Right handed hitter, tall stance, short stride, gets close to arm bar in load, swing shows some looseness, line drive production, went 3-for-5 in game play showing the ability to make solid contact to all fields. Defensively, showed 72 mph arm strength from outfield, long high ¾ release. As infielder, adequate hands, 73 mph arm across the infield with some accuracy.
Jeffrey Schneider, OF, R/R, Conner HS, 2015
6-foot, 175-pound prospect posted a 4.88 home to first base time and 77 mph tee exit velocity. Right handed hitter, slightly open stance, toe tap with a long stride, loose hands, good lower half use, flashes occasional gap power, went 0-for-5 in game play with two strikeouts. Defensively showed 74 mph arm from the outfield, short arm action, high ¾ slot, some accurate throws to the third base bag.
