Underclass Games: Team Red Pitching Analysis

By Chris Fuller
Kentucky Scouting Director

The PBR Kentucky Underclass Games event took place on June 29-30 with a combination showcase/game play event at Sayre HS and the University of Kentucky. The event afforded players from around the state the opportunity to showcase their abilities and establish themselves as top players in their respective classes. The following is a look at the pitchers who took the mound for Team Red at the event. This is pitching analysis only. Those players who also played a position for Team Red will have that evaluation featured in a subsequent article.

Ethan Smock, LHP, Logan County HS, 2018
6-foot, 145-pound, lanky lefty uses long arm action and works through a ¾ arm slot that produces some natural arm-side run on fastball, minimal effort in delivery, fastball sat 77-79 mph, tends to slow arm on 64-65 mph curveball with 2/8 action, curveball was erratic at times (hit two batters), showed a 68 mph changeup with some sink, allowed no hits but hit two batters and walked one while striking out four (all swinging on FB’s) in his two innings of work. Smock is s young lefty to follow closely.

Luke Price, RHP/1B, Christian Academy of Louisville, 2017
6-foot-3, 205-pound RHP uses long arm action and works through a high-3/4 arm slot with regular effort in delivery, good rhythm and tempo, fastball sat 77-80 mph topping at 81, showed a 67-68 mph curveball with 11/5 action, stuck with the fastball/curveball mix in game action, allowed one hit, walked one, and struck out two (one swinging on FB, one swinging on CB) in his two innings of work.

Noah Huseman, RHP/SS, Beechwood HS, 2017
5-foot-11, 175-pound RHP uses long arm action and works through a high-3/4 arm slot with regular effort in delivery, throws slightly across body, fastball is straight and sat 77-80 mph, throws a solid 65-68 mph curveball for strikes with 11/5 action, did not show a changeup in game play, allowed five hits, walked one, and struck out three (two swinging on CB’s) in his two innings of work.
