By Chris Fuller
Kentucky Scouting Director

Over the next few weeks, we will continue to take a look at players who will be participating in the PBR Kentucky Top Prospect Games at Western Kentucky University June 16-17. The event affords players the opportunity to showcase their abilities in pre-game infield/outfield, batting practice, and game play. More than 40 players who attended last year’s Top Prospect Games event have committed to play at the college level with many more yet to come. This year’s event will feature the top uncommitted Class of 2016 and 2017 players from across Kentucky.

Jeffrey Purnell is a highly projectable 6-foot3, 175-pound RHP from Boone County HS who showed well at thepurnell Preseason All-State Showcase in February. Below is a look at his scouting report from the event.

2/14/15 - 6-foot-3, 175-pound RHP with frame that projects well at the next level, uses short arm action and works through a high-3/4 to over the top arm slot, has some effort in delivery, arm is quick, good downward tilt on 84-86 mph fastball that touched 87 on one occasion, throws a 71-73 mph curveball with sharp 11/5 action and shows good feel for it, throws changeup with good arm action at 76-77 mph, also flashes a 76-77 mph slider with some bite,  good upside on the 2016 prospect.

Purnell, currently ranked No. 15 in Kentucky’s 2016 class, will take the mound at the Top Prospect Games looking to solidify himself as one of the top uncommitted 2016 arms in the state.
