The 2016 Super 60 took place Sunday at The Max in McCook, IL, and more than 100 scouts came out to see some of the top seniors from Prep Baseball Report’s coverage area. Overall, it was a great day for many. Well-known prospects performed to expectations, while others broke out and put themselves squarely on the draft radar.
Two big standouts for me included SS Tyler Fitzgerald (Rochester HS, IL) and 1B/LHP Joey Wentz (Shawnee Mission East HS, KS). Both made the rounds on the showcase circuit last summer and showed various strengths, but they certainly helped their own cause on Sunday. A fundamental player with bloodlines, Fitzgerald is the son of Mike Fitzgerald, a first-round pick of the Cardinals in 1984. The Louisville recruit does a lot of things well and turned in a 6.71 and 6.74 in the 60-yard dash.
