Nick Eggemeyer is a 6-foot-4, 200-pound RHP from St. Mary HS in Paducah who possesses an ideal pitcher’s frame. At the Kentucky Top Prospect Games in June, Eggemeyer showed a fastball that topped at 86 mph, a sharp 68-72 mph curveball, and good arm action on his 74 mph changeup.
After the Top Prospect Games, I expected we would see more velocity to come for the right-hander, and it didn’t take long. By early fall Eggemeyer’s fastball began topping out at 88 mph, and shortly thereafter he verbally committed to Evansville. Eggemeyer signed his National Letter of Intent during the early signing period in November.
We recently caught up with Eggemeyer to discuss his decision.
PBR: Why did you choose Evansville?
Eggemeyer: I chose Evansville because the coaches made me feel like a part of the team even before I committed. Also once I stepped foot on campus it felt like home to me.
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
Eggemeyer: Memphis, SIU Carbondale, Belmont, WKU, and Louisville.
PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you compete?
Eggemeyer: This past summer and at a showcase this fall.
PBR: What role does Coach Carroll expect you to play during your first year on campus?
Eggemeyer: He expects me to come in, work hard every day, pound the strike zone, and hopefully be one of the weekend starters.
PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?
Eggemeyer: My dad, he's taught me everything about baseball and about life. If it weren't for him I wouldn't be where I am today.
PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was your most exciting experience playing summer ball?
Eggemeyer: I played for Kentucky Baseball Club but I am playing with the Evansville Razorbacks this summer. Finishing 7th at the world wood bat and winning nationals in Louisville were my favorite moments.
PBR: What are your goals for your senior season at St. Mary?
Eggemeyer: Win the all a state championship in April and win a state championship in June.
PBR: Who is the toughest hitter you have faced in Kentucky?
Eggemeyer: Nathan Williams who used to be at Heath HS but now is at McCracken County.
