Recently, Sam Goode committed to Lincoln Land College, a junior college located in Springfield, Illinois. Goode, a 5-foot-11, 180-pound 3B from Lone Oak HS is ranked No.50 in the class of 2013. Prep Baseball Report recently caught up with Goode to discuss his baseball career and commitment to the Loggers.
PBR: Why did you choose Lincoln Land?
Goode: I was very impressed with their baseball program, city, and they gave me a great offer to play for them.
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
Goode: John A. Logan, Georgia Southern, Murray State, and Southern Illinois.
PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you play?
Goode: In the fall of this year playing for Coach Johnson with the Evansville Razorbacks. We played against a Junior College in Illinois and one of the coaches saw me play.
PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your freshman year?
Goode: They expect me to come in and be the starting 3rd baseman and hit in the 3 or 5 hole.
PBR: What would you consider your biggest strength as a player?
Goode: My biggest strength is my hitting.
PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on your baseball career?
Goode: My Dad (Ronnie Goode) and Coach Doc Heideg, who is family friend but is the backbone to keeping Brooks Stadium alive in Paducah.
PBR: Who do you play for in the summer?
Goode: Paducah Post 31, American Legion Senior Team
PBR: What is your most memorable baseball moment?
Goode: The first time I stepped foot on Brooks Stadium Field to play ball, (My great-grandfather, Polk Brooks built the Stadium) was by far a moment I will never forget. I also hit five homeruns my sophomore year in a tournament for Lone Oak HS in Florida.
PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher you have faced in the state of Kentucky?
Goode: I would say Hagman from Hopkinsville my freshman year when we played in State Tournament.
PBR: What are your goals for your senior season at Lone Oak?
Goode: My goal is to do what it takes to play hard enough to be a part of a great team that makes it to the State Championship and win! I am a part of the very last team to play for Lone Oak High School. Three high schools are consolidating and will be open August of 2013.
