The Preseason All-State Showcase saw 11 pitchers from the 2016 class take the mound to throw bullpen sessions. Top to bottom it was a solid group with several showing the potential to be high-level prospects.

Below is a look at the Class of 2016 pitchers from the event.

top 5 prospects

Easton McGee, RHP, Hopkinsville HS, 2016
6-foot-6, 192-pound prospect with very long and lanky build, frame really projects, uses shorter arm action through a ¾ to high ¾ arm slot, very minimal effort in delivery, fastball sat 83-84 mph (McGee was in the middle of basketball season, have seen 85-87 previously), good command of 67-70 mph curveball and 74mph slider with late action, changeup sat 75-78 mph with good fade thrown with good arm action.  McGee wasn’t as sharp as in the past due to basketball season, but he is a sought after 2016 prospect with multiple Division I offers on the table presently.

Cameron Planck, RHP, Rowan County HS, 2016
6-foot-3, 190-pound prospect with strong and athletic frame that really projects, uses long arm action through a high ¾ arm slot, good ryyhtm and tempo in delivery, arm is quick, showed an increase in velocity from the fall, fastball sat 84-85 mph touching 86 with some arm-side run, curveball shows late and sharp 11/5 action at 70-73 mph, throws changeup with fastball arm speed and good arm action at 76-77 mph with good run and sink.  Planck’s arm works as well as any in KY’s 2016 class, and there is no doubt he will be a sought after 2016 prospect.

Hunter Sullivan, RHP/SS, Elizabethtown HS, 2016
5-foot-10, 170-pound prospect with athletic build, uses long and loose arm action through a ¾ arm slot, arm is very quick,good temp in delivery,  fastball sat 85-86 with late arm-side run, showed good command of 70-73 mph sweeping curveball with slurvy type action, solid changeup at 75-77 mph with significant fade thrown with good arm action, has shown velocity increase since summer event, good upside and high-level 2016 prospect on the mound.

Logan Wyatt, 3B/RHP, North Bullitt HS, 2016
6-foot-3, 220-pound prospect, uses long arm action through a ¾ arm slot, fastball sat 83-85 mph touching 86, lost some fastball velocity from the stretch at 80-81 mph, throws a hard curveball at 72-75 mph with late bite, good command of 80-81 mph changeup that is straight, changeup would benefit from more velocity difference off fastball, interesting prospect on the mound with two-way ability as 3B/left-handed power bat.

Griffin McLarty, RHP/3B, Oldham County HS, 2016
6-foot-2, 160-pound prospect with long and lanky frame and a lot of room to fill in, uses long arm action through a ¾ to high ¾ arm slot, fastball showed good arm-side run at 81-83 mph touching 84, 67-70 mph curveball showed sharp 11/5 action, commanded curveball well (have seen it harder in the past at 74-75 mph), changeup sat 70-74 mph that shows good fade when he stays behind it.  McLarty was in the middle of basketball season at this event, would not be surprised to see additional velocity from him in the spring, big upside for this potential high-level prospect.

Luke Brown, LHP/OF, Murray HS, 2016
5-foot-9, 140-pound prospect with room for to add on frame, uses long arm action through an over the top arm slot, a bit undersized at present but arm works very well, fastball showed late arm-side run at 80-82 mph, showed better feel for 62-65 mph curveball as his bullpen went along, curveball has 12/6 action with some depth, throws a solid 73-76 mph changeup with run and sink, changeup is thrown with good arm action.  Brown is certainly a lefty to follow with the potential to add more velocity as he fills out his frame.

Tyler Horsley, RHP/OF, Ballard HS, 2016
6-foot-1, 167-pound prospect with long and lanky frame, uses long arm action through a high ¾ arm slot, aggressive hip load, continue to show an increase in velocity, fastball sat 81-83 with some cutting action, showed good command of 65-69 mph curveball that showed depth and sharp 11/5 action, changeup is solid at 73-74 mph with some sink and fade, arm is loose and projectable, projects for additional velocity as frame fills in, definite prospect to follow in 2016 class.

Dylan Messer, RHP/1B, North Laurel HS, 2016
6-foot-1, 180-pound prospect with athletic frame, uses long arm action through a high ¾ arm slot, controlled delivery with minimal effort, arm is loose, fastball showed some late arm-side run at 80-82 mph, showed good command of 69-70 mph curveball that has more slider type late action, gets around changeup at times but it shows good fade when he stays behind it at 70-73 mph, will need to develop more feel for the changeup, good upside for this 2016 prospect and one to keep an eye on.

Blake Redmon, 2B/RHP, Franklin County HS, 2016
5-foot-8, 145-pound prospect, room to fill in frame, works through a high ¾ arm slot, fastball sat 73-75 mph with some arm-side run, throws a 59-62 mph curveball with gradual 11/5 action, changeup is best present secondary pitch thrown with fastball arm speed at 67-70 mph with good run and sink, has shown some increase in velocity since last summer.

Isaac Stephens, RHP/3B, Somerset HS, 2016
6-foot, 165-pound prospect with lean and athletic frame and room to fill in, uses medium arm action through a high ¾ arm slot, fastball showed some cutting action at 71-73 mph touching 74, showed better command of 62-65 mph curveball from the windup, curveball showed gradual 11/5 action, changeup showed some fade at 64-67 mph.

Austin Campbell, OF/LHP, Madison Central HS, 2016
6-foot, 150-pound prospect with lanky build and room to fill in his frame, uses long arm action through an over the top arm slot, fastball is mainly straight at 69-70 mph, showed inconsistent command of 58-63 mph curveball with gradual 12/6 action, tends to slow arm on 56-59 mph changeup, projects for more velocity as he fills in his frame, secondary pitches need continued development.
