Most teams around the state kicked off their season last week, meaning we had plenty of statistics to sift through in selecting our first Player of the Week this spring. There were several worthy candidates nominated, but looking through the numbers, two player stood out as deserving of this week’s honor. Thus, our first installment of Player of the Week includes both as Co-Players of the Week.
In leading Model to two wins, outfielder Garrison Gray put up outstanding numbers for the week. The junior left-handed hitter went 8-for-14 with a home run, three RBIs, and scored four runs, but that wasn’t where his offensive contributions ended. Gray used his speed to swipe seven bases in Model’s four games. It would be an understatement to say he has been the catalyst to the Patriots early season offense.

Danville's junior 1B/RHP Brian Baxa got off to a hot start in leading the Admirals to two wins last week. The right-handed hitter put on a display of power in the middle of the lineup as he went 6-for-13 with two doubles, three home runs, and 11 RBIs to lead the Danville offense.
