As an athlete, it’s difficult to miss time on the field due to injury. You come to the park each day wanting to be on the field with your teammates more than anything, but all you can do is watch. It’s even tougher if an injury coincides with your senior year, the last time you will wear that school name across your chest. After off-season knee surgery, that’s exactly the situation Blake Redmon found himself in. That is, until last week.
Last week, Redmon suited up for the first time this spring, and to say his return meant a lot to the Franklin County Flyers would be an understatement. The senior 2B/RHP hit at a .500 clip (5-for-10) while committing no errors in 10 chances defensively. He also pitched a complete game shutout in a win over North Oldham, allowing four hits while striking out five and issuing just one walk. He used his sinking fastball to produce 14 ground ball outs in the impressive outing.
For his performance on the field, Franklin County 2016 2B/RHP Blake Redmon has been selected the PBR Kentucky Player of the Week for May 2-7.
