PBR Kentucky Player of the Week (May 3-8): LHP Justin West
May 11, 2021
Typically when a performance ties a state record, it bodes well for your chances to win Player of The Week honors. Such is the case for Paducah Tilghman LHP Justin West.
In an intense rivalry game last Wednesday night, No. 11-ranked Tilghman squared off against the No. 5-ranked Mustangs from McCracken County. What transpired was a dominant pitching performance from West, a 2022 Louisville commit, in a game in which McCracken would eventually pull out a 3-2 12-inning victory.
After allowing two unearned runs in the first inning, West fired six scoreless to keep his team in the game. Against a lineup that included two Division 1 recruits, two Juco recruits, and two highly-ranked sophomores, West's final stat line was eye-opening.
7 IP, 1H, 0 ER, 3 BB, 20 K
Yes, that's correct. The junior lefty recorded all but one out via the strikeout, tying a state record along the way for strikeouts in 7 innings.
For the season, West has a miniscule 0.79 ERA and a whopping 85 strikeouts in 35.1 innings of work.
For his outstanding performance on the field last week, Justin West has been selected the PBR Kentucky Player of The Week for May 3-8.
