Ky College Prospect Showcase: Outfield Analysis

More than 70 players convened at Bellarmine University on July 15 for the Kentucky College Prospect Showcase. The following is a look at the group of outfielders who participated in the event. It was a solid group from top to bottom as some impressive performances were turned in. Among the group, Garrett Wilson set a PBR Kentucky record with a 6.54-second 60 time, Clay Druin had the best arm strength at 86 mph, and Walter Baker III had the best tee exit velocity at 90 mph.

Walter Baker III, OF, R/R, Fern Creek HS, 2015
5-foot-10, 200-pound prospect with strong lower half, two-handed approach to balls on the ground, showed 77 mph arm strength with some accurate throws to the third base bag. At the plate, hits from an open stance and squares front side with a short stride, displays raw strength and ball jumps when barreled, shows pull-side power, good speed for size with 7.06 60 yard dash, showed his bat speed with 90 mph tee exit velocity, has potential to hit for some power at the next level.
Blake Booker, OF, R/R, Trinity (Whitesville) HS, 2016
6-foot-3, 185 pound prospect showed 78 mph arm strength from the outfield with some accurate throws, plays through the baseball on the ground. At the plate, hits from a balanced stance with minimal stride, can incorporate more consistent use of lower half, shows pull tendencies, ran 7.58 60 yard dash, 66 mph tee exit velocity.
Chase Bright, OF, R/R, Marshall County HS, 2015
5-foot-7, 140 pound prospect showcased his speed as he did at the Top Prospect Games (where he ran 4.34 home to first) with a 6.87 60 yard dash. Defensively, showed athletic actions and 78 mph arm strength (81 at previous event) with accurate throws to the third base bag. At the plate, hits from an open stance with a short stride, maintains good balance, arm bar and wrap in load creates some length to swing, gets through the zone with some hand quickness, line drive type hitter, registered 81 mph tee exit velocity.
Clay Druin, OF, R/R, Thomas Nelson HS, 2015
6-foot, 155 pound prospect significantly increased every measurable since last summer. Defensively, attacks the ball well on the ground and showed 86 mph arm strength with online carry. At the plate, hits from a balanced setup with a short stride, has a shot path to the ball which produces gap to gap line drives, good balance in swing, showed some speed with a 6.97 60 yard dash, registered 80 mph tee exit velocity.
Kyle Fieger, RHP/OF, R/R, Beechwood HS, 2016
5-foot-11, 165-pound prospect showed athletic actions with quick and fluid feet in the outfield, showcased 83 mph arm strength on very accurate throws to the third base bag. At the plate, hits from a balanced setup with a short stride, line drive type hitter with gap-to-gap approach, showed very good speed with a 6.77 60 yard dash, registered 83 mph tee exit velocity.
Brandon Gibson, OF, R/R, Jeffersontown HS, 2016
5-foot-9, 160 pound prospect shows some athleticism in outfield and plays through the baseball, showcased 83 mph arm strength with mostly accurate throws to the third base bag. At the plate, hits from a balanced stance with a short stride, level swing path, line drive type hitter, showed some speed with 7.03 60 yard dash, registered 75 mph tee exit velocity, prospect to keep an eye on.
John Halcomb, OF, R/R, Greenwood HS, 2015
5-foot-10, 145-pound prospect showed improvement in playing through the baseball from previous event, also showed significant increase in velocity with 81 mph arm strength with some carry. At the plate, hits from a balanced setup with a short stride, maintains good balance, shows some hand quickness on inner half pitches, line drive type hitter consistently barreled up the baseball in his round, has upside offensively with added strength to frame, ran 6.97 60 yard dash, 83 mph tee exit velocity.
Tyler Hicks, OF, L/R, McCracken County HS, 2015
6-foot, 195 pound prospect with strong frame, showcased 81 mph arm strength with some carry with mostly accurate throws to the third base bag. At the plate, left-handed hitter hits from an open stance with a short stride, maintains good balance, good rhythm in swing, short path to the ball with good extension through contact, line drive type hitter uses all fields, consistently barreled the baseball in his round, ran 7.22 60 yard dash, 85 mph tee exit velocity.
Wesley Jorette, OF, R/R, Anderson County HS, 2015
5-foot-10, 155 pound prospect showed good combination of speed and arm strength running a 6.78 60 yard dash with 84 mph arm strength on very accurate throws to the third base bag, plus defender with athletic actions, fluid feet, and attacks the baseball well. At the plate, hits from a balanced stance with a short stride, line drive type hitter, showed present bat speed with 86 mph tee exit velocity, interesting prospect with tools that project at the next level.
Cameron Magers, OF/RHP, R/R, Bullitt East HS, 2016
5-foot-9, 140 pound prospect showcased 79 mph arm strength from the outfield with some accurate throws to the third base bag. At the plate, hits from an open stance with a big leg kick trigger, line drive type hitter with gap to gap approach, showed some speed running a 7.09 60 yard dash, registered 79 mph tee exit velocity.
Alex Phillips, OF/LHP, L/L, Butler HS, 2015
6-foot-1, 160 pound prospect shows athletic actions in the outfield, plays through the baseball well, showed 82 mph arm strength with some carry and mostly accurate throws to the third base bag. At the plate, the left-handed hitter took an impressive round of batting practice consistently squaring the baseball, balanced setup with a short stride, loose swing, line drive type hitter, ran 7.39 60 yard dash, 80 mph tee exit velocity.
Tyler Simpson, OF/LHP, R/L, Male HS, 2015
6-foot-1, 170 pound prospect showed athletic outfield actions, attacks the baseball well and showed 83 mph arm strength with some carry and accuracy to throws. At the plate, hits from a tall and open setup with a long stride, level swing path, line drive type hitter, showcased one of the top 60 times of the event at 6.70, registered 83 mph tee exit velocity.
Gavin Sullivan, OF, R/L, Eastern HS, 2017
6-foot-1, 190-pound prospect, showcased good arm strength for age at 84 mph with carry while playing through the baseball well. At the plate, hits from a balanced stance with a short stride, good use of strong lower half, creates some lift with occasional pull-side power, ran 7.37 60 yard dash, showed present bat speed for age with 84 mph tee exit velocity.
William Wadley, OF, R/R, McCracken County HS, 2016
6-foot-3, 165-pound prospect plays through the baseball well with athletic actions, showcased 81 mph arm strength from the outfield with some inconsistency of throws to third base. At the plate, hits from a tall setup with a short stride, long swing path, showed some speed running a 7.07 60 yard dash, registered 78 mph tee exit velocity, offensive game should continue to develop with additional strength

5-foot-11, 160 pound prospect set a PBR Kentucky record running a 6.54 60 yard dash, shows athletic actions in the outfield with quick feet and plays through the baseball, made some accurate throws with 83 mph arm strength. At the plate, hits from an open setup with a long stride, uphill path to the ball, explodes with lower half and shows pull-side power, hit two balls over the left field fence in his round of batting practice, definite high follow in 2016 class.
