Kentucky Players Show Well at Super 60

More than 70 of the top draft prospects from 15 states participated in the 13th annual Prep Baseball Report Super 60 Pro Showcase in front of a packed house of pro scouts at The Max in McCook, IL.  Three players from Kentucky represented the Bluegrass State well in showing why they received the coveted invite to the event.

Lexington Catholic SS Daniel Little got his showcase started in grand fashion in showing off his elite littlespeed.  Little ran a 6.63 60-yard dash, a number that was the third best among the 41 position players at the event.  But Little’s impressive performance was just getting started.  As the only switch-hitter of the event, Little had solid rounds from both sides of the plate, showing his ability to make consistent, hard contact.  Little finished up the event by showing very good infield actions at his shortstop position.  He showed some of the softest hands of the day, and while he doesn’t wow you with arm strength (75 mph) his hands are extremely quick, and he is able to get rid of the ball quickly from different arm angles.

Like Little, Boyd County catcher Jacob Barnwell impressed immediately, showing elite speed for the barnwellcatcher position with a 6.82 60-yard dash.  That number was the third best time among the 13 catchers at the event and showed Barnwell’s obvious athleticism.  While Barnwell would probably tell you he didn’t put up his best numbers, he showed a very accurate arm in posting a 1.97 pop time with 76 mph arm strength from the crouch.  He has posted better pop times and arm strength numbers at other national events, and Barnwell’s catch-and-throw skills are impressive.

pinkhamElizabethtown catcher Zeke Pinkham impressed in his rounds of batting practice, showing his ability to hit hard line drives to all parts of the field while displaying some gap-to-gap power.  Watching Pinkham take batting practice, it’s easy to see why he has been an extra-base hit machine in his career at Elizabethtown.  Defensively, Pinkham  showed quick feet and a quick exchange in posting a pop time of 1.97 with accurate throws to the second base bag.

All told, it was a fine day for the three young men from Kentucky as they represented the state very well under the watchful eyes of pro scouts and the PBR scouting staff.
