Kentucky Pitcher of the Week: Highlands 2015 RHP Mitchell Jones

This week’s Pitcher of the Week had somewhat of an advantage. Why? Because I was in attendance for his performance, and it was nothing short of masterful.
Lexington Catholic and Highlands squared off last Friday evening in the Doc Morris Invitational at Scott High School. What transpired was a good old-fashioned pitcher’s duel in Highlands’ 1-0, extra-inning win.
Senior right-hander Mitchell Jones (Kentucky Wesleyan signee) took the mound for the Bluebirds and proceeded to turn in the most well-pitched game I have seen all spring. Jones fired a complete game (8 innings) two-hit shutout to stifle the Lexington Catholic offense. He finished the game with seven strikeouts in an efficient 90-pitch effort that featured no walks. In fact, not only did Jones not walk a batter, he didn’t even go to a three-ball count the entire game. The senior located his mid-80’s fastball on both sides of the plate and repeatedly either locked up hitters or got swings and misses with his curveball and changeup. Both of the hits Jones allowed were of the infield variety.
For his performance on the field, Mitchell Jones has been selected as the PBR Kentucky Pitcher of the Week.
