Kentucky Class of 2025 Rankings Released

Chris Fuller
Kentucky Director of Scouting

After a number of summer and fall events afforded our staff the opportunity to see a large number of players in the 2025 class, we release our initial player rankings in a list that goes out to 85 players.

As always, when ranking young players, these rankings will undoubtedly change and evolve over the coming years as players continue to grow and improve, and as our staff gets the opportunity to see more players from the current freshman class. Expect significant changes across these rankings as we move forward.

Catcher Owen Jenkins sits at the top of the class. The 6-foot-1, 200-pound right-handed hitter started behind the dish as an eighth grader for Lafayette who advanced to the State Quarterfinals. He brings physicality to the plate with big power for his age and is solid defensively with improving arm strength. Jenkins committed to Louisville shortly after shining at the PBR Junior Future Games as a member of Team Kentucky.

Another Team Kentucky Junior Future Games member and Louisville commit, shortstop Kade Elam, occupies the No. 2 spot. Elam really stands out defensively with smooth actions and the ability to make plays look easy on the move, but his production on the field doesn’t stop there. Offensively, Elam flashes gap to gap approach and projects to add significant power as he fills out his athletic frame.

Shortstop/RHP Ethan Reynolds checks in at No. 3. Offensively, Reynolds is a physical presence in the box at 6-foot, 205-pounds, and may possess the most current power of anyone in the class. He’s also a well above average runner with the arm strength to stay on the left side of the infield. Reynolds’ skills set doesn’t stop there, as he has also proven to be one of the top arms in the class on the mound with a fastball that sits in the low-80’s coupled with an effective curveball.

Another shortstop, Koltyn Perez, occupies the No. 4 spot. The extremely athletic MIF has posted a class best 6.83 60-yard dash with the hands and arm strength to stay at the SS position. Perez features quick bat speed that produces extra base hits and pull side power and uses his speed as an offensive weapon on the bases.

Outfielder Mayes Gosser, a 6-foot-3, 190-pound right-handed hitter, rounds out the top five. There is big upside in his frame, and he already possesses the bat speed to do damage each time he steps to the plate as he displayed as a member of Team Kentucky at the PBR Junior Future Games. Gosser uses his speed and athleticism well in the outfield, showing the ability to track down fly balls while taking good angles to the baseball. Look for his power to continue to increase as he grows into his athletic frame.
