Kentucky Baseball Club Standout Performers From WWBA Underclass Championship

By Chris Fuller
Kentucky Scouting Director

Kentucky Baseball Club participated in the WWBA Underclass Championship in Fort Myers, Florida that began last Thursday and finished the tournament with a 2-1-1 record.

After Friday concluded with a 1-1 tie with the Evoshield Canes 2017 Prime and a 5-3 win over the GRB Easton Rays, KBC went into Saturday with a chance to win their pool and advance to the playoff round.  However, a tough 2-1 loss to the Florida Surge meant a consolation game on Sunday, a game they would ultimately win 7-2 over Nelson Baseball School.

The following is a look at standout performers for Kentucky Baseball Club during the tournament.

Jackson Boggs, RHP/OF, Lafayette HS, 2016
The 6-foot, 165-pound right-hander fired a complete game in the 1-1 tie with Evoshield.  Boggs worked seven innings allowing two hits and no earned runs while recording five strikeouts.  His fastball reportedly topped at 81 mph.  Boggs will be participating in our Fall Prospect Games event on October 19 at Bellarmine University.

Josh Flowers, RHP/OF, Lexington Catholic HS, 2016
The 6-foot-2, 205-pound prospect went 4-for-10 with two doubles and four RBIs in leading the Kentucky Baseball Club offense.

Ryan Layne, 3B, West Jessamine HS, 2016
The 5-foot-10, 160-pound left-handed hitter went 4-for-11 with a double and scored two runs as one of the offensive standouts for KBC.

Mark Leonard, RHP, West Jessamine HS, 2016
The 6-foot-2, 180-pound right-hander worked five innings of scoreless baseball, allowing five hits while racking up seven strikeouts in the 7-2 win on Sunday.

Dalton Shoemake, LHP, Glasgow HS, 2017
Shoemake worked four innings in the 2-1 loss to the Florida Surge.  The 5-foot-11, 175-pound lefty allowed four hits and two earned runs while racking up seven strikeouts.  Shoemake also recently impressed at the Fall Prospect Games at the University of Louisville where his fastball topped at 84 mph and he struck out five in two innings of work.

Bailey Sutton, RHP/SS, Eastern HS, 2016
The 6-foot-1, 155-pound right-hander picked up the win against the GRB Easton Rays by tossing 4.2 innings of three-hit, shutout baseball.  Sutton struck out one while allowing just one walk. Sutton will be participating in our Fall Prospect Games event on October 19 at Bellarmine University.
