KY/TN Border Battle: Statistical Analysis (10/6)

Colton Provey
PBR TN Director of Scouting

On October, 6th, PBR Tennessee and PBR Kentucky joined together for the fourth annual KY/TN Border Battle at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.  This event featured the next wave of talent (2021-2022s) from both states as they showcased their skills and battled for bragging rights.  The Border Battled featured the top 45 uncommitted prospects from Tennessee and Kentucky with players participating in a pro style workout and game play.  All players were evaluated by respective PBR state staff.  Through the first three years of Border Battle, there have been nearly 100 D1 commits among participants.

In game one, Tennessee got off to a hot start, plating eight runs in the first three frames, to coast to an 11-3 win over Kentucky's 2021 Team.  Tennessee offense clobbered out 14 hits with five players having multi-hit performances.  Tennessee pitching staff limited the Kentucky offense to just 3 hits while punching out 12 in 10 innings of work.

In game two, Kentucky raced out to a 5-0 lead behind strong pitching and timely hitting on offense.  The 2022 Tennessee team cut the lead to two heading into the final frame before Kentucky scratched two runs in the top of the 10th to take a 7-3 lead into the bottom half.  Tennessee managed to score three in the 10th before falling 7-6 in a late inning thriller.

Let’s take a look at the top statistical performances from Sunday’s action.
