KY College Prospect Showcase: 3B Analysis

On Saturday, January 17, prospects from all parts of the state showcased their abilities at the Kentucky College Showcase at Legends Sports Academy in Louisville. Over the coming days, we will take a position group by position group look at all of the players in attendance at the event.
The following is a look at the group of third basemen who participated in the event.
Dawson Hogan, 3B, R/R, Campbell County HS, 2016
5-foot-9, 160-pound prospect, right-handed hitter hits from a balanced stance and utilizes a short stride, gets the barrel through the zone with some hand quickness, good extension through contact, line drive type hitter with gap to gap approach, posted 4.77 home to first time, 78 mph exit velocity. Defensively, shows athletic actions, good footwork, soft hands, longer exchange, high-3/4 release, accurate arm, 75 mph arm strength across the infield, current size and arm strength projects better as a 2B at the next level.
Jared Brussell, 3B, R/R, South Oldham HS, 2015
5-foot-10, 165-pound prospect, right-handed hitter hits from a slightly open stance, squares front side with a short stride, displays good balance, high hand finish, line drive type hitter, significantly improved speed from previous event with 4.60 home to first time, 73 mph exit velocity. Defensively, shows good corner actions, soft hands, good lateral movement, shows ability to throw on the move accurately from different arm angles, accurate arm, showed an increase in arm strength at 74 mph across the infield (71 at previous event).
Ben Kopriva, 3B, R/R, Trinity HS, 2016
6-foot, 178-pound prospect, right-handed hitter hits from a narrow, square stance, has a longer stride, line drive type hitter with a level swing path, showed a middle to opposite field approach, timing late on some pitches, posted a 4.86 home to first base time, 79 mph exit velocity. Defensively, shows sure hands, good lateral movement, showed an increase in velocity across the infield at 76 mph (72 at previous event), accurate throws.
Jackson Diaz, 3B, R/R, Kentucky Country Day, 2018
5-foot-11, 185-pound, young prospect with strong and athletic frame, right-handed hitter hits from a wide base with no stride, loads up on backside, short swing path, gets some lower half involvement in swing, shows some bat speed for age, gap to gap approach, posted 4.98 home to first base time, 79 mph exit velocity. Defensively, shows average hands, long exchange, over-the-top release, can attack slow roller better, accurate throws, 76 mph arm strength across the infield.
