Collin Harris’ state leading 14 home runs has garnered a lot of attention, but there is another player at Danville High School having a breakout season in helping lead the Admirals to a 23-11 record this spring.

Junior Mason Stamm is getting it done with both his bat and his arm and has offered big protection for Harris, hitting behind him in the Danville lineup.  The left-handed hitter’s impressive offensive numbers include a .474 batting average with nine doubles, one triple, six home runs, and 42 RBI.  In addition, Stamm has shown the ability to consistently put the ball in play with just five strikeouts in 122 plate appearances.

In the All A State Semi-Finals  two weekends ago at Whitaker Bank Ballpark, Stamm put his power on full display when he tripled into the right field corner in his first at bat, and launched a long home run in his second at bat of the day.

Also in that Semi-Final game, Stamm, a left-handed pitcher, showed his ability to consistently throw strikes when he pitched a complete game with nine strikeouts to advance Danville into the championship game.  His fastball showed good arm-side run at 77-79 mph, and he showed good command of his 63-66 mph curveball with the ability to work both sides of the plate.  For the season, Stamm sports a 5-0 record, a 1.93 ERA, and has struck out 35 batters in 29 innings of work.

While Stamm is proving he can get outs on the mound at the high school level, there is no doubt it’s his left-handed bat that will draw plenty of attention from college coaches.

“Mason is a very versatile player for his size,” Danville head coach Paul Morse said.  “At 6-foot-3, 195 pounds, he has the size to play first base but is also athletic enough to play the outfield, and he fills both of those roles well for us.  He has plenty of power from the left side with the frame to continue to fill out and get stronger.”

In addition to his work on the baseball field, Stamm excels in the classroom as well.  He is currently carrying a 3.8 grade point average, has scored a 28 on the ACT, and was recently accepted into the Murray State Commonwealth Honors Academy this summer.
