On Sunday, October 14, a group of unsigned seniors (2 juniors participated as well) gathered at St. Catharine College to show their baseball skills to college coaches and the PBR Kentucky staff.  Despite the unusually windy conditions, several solid performances were turned in by the group.  Today we take an in depth look at the top performers, as well as the best of the rest.

Cody Gilbert, OF, Livingston Central HS, Class of 2013

Gilbert is a projectable 6-foot-2, 161-pound athletic left-handed hitting outfielder.  He ran an event best 6.97 60 on a slow track and demonstrated solid arm strength (85 mph) that had carry into a 30mph wind.  He shows solid footwork and a clean exchange playing through the ball.  At the plate, Gilbert shows a balanced setup with a smooth load and uses his lower half well to generate good bat speed through the zone.  He showed quick hands on the inner half and a pull approach. 

Zachary Ranburger, 3B, Apollo HS, Class of 2013

Ranburger has a solid build, with a 5-foot-11, 180-pound frame.  He registered the fastest infield velocity at the event (81 mph) and his throws have good carry.  He shows good infield actions at third base.  At the plate, Ranburger uses a slightly open setup with a smooth load and an explosive lower half to generate barrel whip through the zone.  He is quick to the ball and gets good extension in his swing, displaying good pull power.  He drove a triple off the fence in the game play portion of the event. 

Ben Cooper, RHP/3B, Lexington Christian Academy, Class of 2013

Cooper is a solid two-way prospect with a 6-foot-3, 210-pound frame with some projectability.  On the mound he shows good balance throughout his delivery with on-line mechanics and a ¾ arm slot.   His fastball sits at 81-83 mph with easy effort and some arm side run.  He shows good command of his 66-68 mph curveball that shows tight spin and 11/5 action.  In the field Cooper shows good hands and a clean exchange.  At the plate, he shows a rotational type swing with a balanced setup.  He makes solid contact with quick bat speed and showed the ability to drive the ball the other way with a double off the right-center field fence in the game play portion of the event. 

Nick Gallagher, OF/LHP, Jeffersonville HS (IN), Class of 2013

Gallagher is a lanky 6-foot-2, 160-pound left-handed hitter.  He shows good actions in the outfield, and made an impressive diving catch in the game play portion of the event.  He shows good arm strength (83 mph) and plays through the ball.  On the mound, Gallagher’s throws from a high ¾ arm slot with long arm action.  His fastball sat 77-79 mph with good arm side run.  He showed a tight 1/7 curveball with near fastball arm action that was 61-62 mph.  Gallagher also displayed a 71 mph change up thrown with good arm action that showed some arm side run and sink.  As a hitter, he uses a slightly closed setup and big load.  He tends to wrap a little in his load at times which can lead to trouble getting the barrel through the zone consistently, but he showed well in the game collecting 2 hits, including a triple to deep right-center field.  Additionally, Gallagher ran a 7.38 60 on a slow track. 

Tony Piccirilli, C, Trinity HS, Class of 2013

Piccirilli is a solidly built, 6-foot, 195-pound catching prospect.  Behind the dish, he displays solid receiving and blocking skills.  He showed the best velocity from the crouch at the event, registering 76 mph on his throws to second base with his best pop time at 2.06.  At the plate, Piccirilli uses a wide base with no stride and a low hand set.  He shows a level path to the ball and some gap to gap power. 

Ted Epps, C, St. Xavier HS, Class of 2013

Epps is a 5-foot-7, 160-pound catcher who showed the quickest release at the event.  His throws from the crouch registered at 71 mph on the bag, and he had an event best pop time of 2.01.  He is a solid receiver of the baseball and shows good blocking skills with some athleticism behind the plate.  As a hitter, Epps uses an athletic, balanced setup and smooth load with good lower half involvement to generate bat speed through the zone.  He shows a slight uphill path to the ball with good extension 

Gary (Dustin) Vincent, 2B, Apollo HS, Class of 2013

Vincent is a 6-foot, 161-pound second baseman with an athletic build.  He shows very good infield actions, playing through the ball with advanced, fluid footwork and soft hands while displaying good arm strength across the field (80 mph).  Vincent has a quick, clean transfer, throwing from a ¾ slot with accuracy.  At the plate, Vincent uses an open stance and squares his front side well.  He shows good balance throughout his swing and uses his lower half to generate above average bat speed through the zone. He ran a 7.72 60 on a slow track. 

Jordan Martin, SS, Grant County HS, Class of 2013

Martin has an athletic build with a 6-foot, 178-pound frame.  He shows good infield actions, playing through the ball with a quick transfer and release.  He showed decent arm strength registering at 75 mph across the infield.  At the plate, he hits from an open stance with good balance, a smooth load and short stride.  He has good bat speed through the zone and shows the ability to hit the ball hard the other way while also showing some projectable pull power.   Additionally, Martin ran a 7.34 60 on a slow track. 

Yancey Pritchett, RHP, Trinity HS, Class of 2013

Pritchett is a 5-foot-11, 165-pound RHP that showed the ability to get hitters out.  He shows on-line mechanics with an 80-82 mph fastball that has some arm side run.  His best pitch on the day was a tight 11/5 curveball with good depth that sat 67-69 mph.  He throws the curveball with fastball arm speed and is able to throw it for strikes on any count.  Pritchett throws from a high ¾ arm slot with short, quick arm action that requires some effort. 

J.T. O’Reel, SS, Woodford County, Class of 2013

O’Reel showed good athleticism and actions in the infield with fluid footwork and a clean exchange.  He throws from a high ¾ slot with solid arm strength across the field (78 mph).  At the plate, O’Reel hits from a slightly open stance and squares up his front side.  He showed a smooth load, short stride, and line drive swing path creating solid, consistent contact.  Additionally, O’Reel ran a 7.25 60 on a slow track.

Curtis Ham, 2B/OF, Woodford County, Class of 2013

Ham has a long, athletic build at 6-foot-2, 175-pounds with projectability.  He showed soft hands in the infield with decent arm strength across the field (77 mph) and a clean transfer.  At the plate, Ham hits from a slightly open stance and uses a slight load and short stride.  He uses his lower half to generate above average bat speed and shows consistent contact.

Dallas Adkins, SS, Butler HS, Class of 2013

Adkins is a 5-foot-10, 164-pound SS who showed a solid, accurate arm across the field at 78 mph.  He showed good footwork and a quick transfer.  At the plate, Adkins uses an open stance and a middle of the field approach.  Adkins ran a 7.6 60 on a slow track

Zachary Bobbit, 2B/3B, Oldham County HS, Class of 2013

Bobbit is a 5-foot-10, 150-pound 2B/3B who showed good arm strength across the field (80 mph).  At the plate, he has an athletic setup with a smooth load and uses an explosive lower half to generate good torque in his swing.  He showed good extension in his swing with some power potential.  Additionally, Bobbit ran a 7.25 60 on a slow track.

Chance Brinley, RHP, Eastern HS, Class of 2013

Brinley is a 6-foot, 175-pound RHP with some projectability.  He throws from a high ¾ slot with long arm action and displays good balance thoroughout his delivery.  His fastball sat at 76-79 mph with some arm side run.  He throws a 10/4 curveball that sits at 67-68 mph and a 69 mph change up with some sink. 

Logan Cook, 1B, Paducah Tilghman HS, Class of 2013

Cook is a 5-foot-11, 165-pound first baseman who shows decent footwork around the bag and 74 mph arm strength.  He ran a 7.8 60, and had a good AB in the game, hitting a hard line drive and keeping his hands inside the ball. 

Alec Dunn, SS, Dupont Manual HS, Class of 2013

Dunn is a 5-foot-10, 170-pound SS who ran a 7.6 60 on a slow track.  Dunn’s throws across the field were clocked at 73 mph.  At the plate, he hits from an open stance with a smooth load. 

Joshua Dunn, RHP, Lafayette HS, Class of 2013

At 6-foot-2, 190-pounds, Dunn has a good frame with some projectability.  He throws from a high ¾ arm slot with medium arm action and a fairly straight fastball at 79-81 mph with easy effort.  His 66-67mph curveball shows 11/5 shape and good depth.  He throws a 70 mph change up with near fastball arm action that has some deception and sink. 

William Graham, C, Danville HS, Class of 2013

Graham is a 5-foot-9, 165-pound catcher that showed good blocking skills behind the plate.  His throws from the crouch registered at 69 mph and he had a best pop time of 2.13.  

Andrew Kirkland, 3B, Ballard HS, Class of 2014

Kirkland showed decent arm strength across the field at 77 mph with accuracy.  At the plate, the 5-foot-10, 202-pound right-handed hitter hits from an open stance and uses a long stride.  He uses his strong lower half to generate above average bat speed through the zone. 

Robert Knabel, 1B/RHP, Ballard HS, Class of 2014

At 6-foot-5, 190-pounds, Knabel shows a projectable body.  In the field, he shows decent footwork around the bag and 75 mph velocity across the field.  At the plate, he uses a balanced setup and short stride with a line drive swing path.  On the mound, Knabel showed decent balance and throws from a high ¾ arm slot.  His fastball is straight at 76-79 mph.  He showed a tight 11/5 curveball which was good when down in the zone.  He also showed a 70-71 mph change up which he slows his arm on slightly. 

Justen Linares, SS/2B, Male HS, Class of 2014

Linares is a 5-foot-9, 154-pound right-handed hitting SS/2B who registered throws across the infield at 74 mph.  At the plate, Linares uses a balanced setup, smooth load, and short stride.  He gets his lower half involved to create good bat speed through the zone and takes a short, economical approach to the baseball.

Trenton Parrett, RHP, Central Hardin HS, Class of 2013

Parrett is a 5-foot-6, 135-pound RHP and showed a 70 mph fastball with some arm side run and medium arm action.  He kept hitters off-balance with a curveball that showed 10/4 sweeping action and sat at 57 mph.  His throws a 63-64 mph change up with near fastball arm speed that is fairly straight.  

Cole Phillips, 2B/3B, Danville HS, Class of 2013

Phillips is a 6-foot-1, 185-pound, right-handed hitting infielder who registered throws across the infield at 73 mph with accuracy.  He showed good hands and his feet work well.  At the plate, he hits from an open stance with a toe tap trigger.  He hit the ball hard twice during game play, including a solid line drive single to left field.  Additionally, Phillips ran a 7.6 60 on a slow track.

Christopher Powers, 1B, Woodford County, Class of 2013

Powers is a strong, 6-foot-2, 220 pound, left-handed hitting first baseman who shows good hands and footwork around the bag.  At the plate he hits from an open stance, squares his front side and keeps his hands inside the ball well, showing good bat speed through the zone.  He has a pull approach at the plate and shows some power potential.  Additionally, Powers ran a 7.75 60 on a slow track.

Gus Sholar, RHP/1B, Hopkinsville HS, Class of 2013

Sholar is a 6-foot, 232 pound RHP/1B.  On the mound, he throws from an over-the-top arm slot with a 78-81 mph fastball.  He showed a 12/6, 64-65 mph curveball, but his best off-speed pitch was a 70-71 mph splitter that had good sinking action.  At the plate, he has a tall setup and dives in.  He had a hard double down the left field line in the game play portion of the event. 

Alex Treadway, 3B, Seneca HS, Class of 2013

Treadway is a 6-foot-1, 140-pound lanky third baseman with some projectability.  His throws were clocked at 73 mph across the field and he ran a 7.38 60 on a slow track. 

William Wilder, OF/RHP, Trinity HS, Class of 2013

Wilder is a 6-foot, 170-pound prospect with some projectability to his frame.  He showed 81 mph arm strength from the outfield with some carry and ran a 7.35 60.  On the mound, Wilder throws from a low ¾ arm slot and has good arm side run on his 79-82 mph fastball with long arm action.  His curveball sits at 63-64 mph and shows a sweeping 10/4 action and is a decent pitch when he doesn’t get under it.
