Seth Caple, a 6-foot, 215-pound catcher from Dixie Heights HS, has committed to Olney Central, a junior college in Illinois.  Caple, currently ranked No.31 in the 2014 class, burst onto the scene at the Western KY Prospect ID Showcase in Owensboro in June and followed that up at the Unsigned Senior Games in August.  He has a strong arm behind the plate (80 mph), a top pop time of 1.87, and good pop in his bat.

We recently caught up with Caple to discuss his commitment.

PBR: Why did you choose Olney Central?

Caple: I chose Olney because it felt like a place where I could excel as a student and play a lot of competitive baseball.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Caple: I was also considering Cincinnati, Cumberlands and West Georgia.

PBR:  Where did the coaching staff first see you compete?

Caple:  They saw my video and profile on the PBR website and contacted me after that.

PBR: What role does Coach Conley expect you to play during your first year on campus?

Caple: Coach Conley expects me to play as a freshman and battle for the number one catching spot.

PBR:  Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

Caple:  My father has had the greatest impact on me as a baseball player.  He has thrown millions of balls to me in the cage through the years.  He has been there for me through my whole career and through this whole process.  My high school coaches, Coach Maxwell and Coach Odom have had a big impact on me as a ball player.  They have been coaching me up since my freshman year.  My summer ball coach, Walt Terrell has also had a big impact on me as a ball player. He has helped me through the recruitment process step by step.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was your most exciting experience playing summer ball?

Caple: I play for the Kentucky Colonels.  My favorite experience is playing the Nashville tournament and getting to spend the entire summer with some of my best friends.

PBR: What are your goals for your senior season at Dixie Heights?

Caple:  My goals for Dixie this year is to lead the team back to the regional championship but make sure we win it this year.

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher you have faced in Kentucky?

Caple:  Mitch Kuebbing from St. Henry graduated last year but always seemed to find a way to get me out.  You could never get comfortable in the box with him because he isn't afraid to come up and in.
