Over 300 players within the Canes Baseball organization traveled to Championship Park in Kokomo, IN for the annual Canes Scout Weekend. This is the third year we have hosted this event and the talent level seemingly improves each year. 25 teams competed in the event in 2023, with prospects ranging from the 2024 class to the 2028 class. Read below to find scouting notes on pitchers, including two-way prospects, who stood out to our staff throughout the weekend.

‘26 RHP/OF Trevor Ames (Canes Illinois) - Projectable ‘26 arm standing at 6-foot-3, 165 pounds. Taller balance point, lands closed. Uninterrupted arm action that comes out of an over-the-top slot. Repeated the delivery to allow for consistent command of the fastball. Worked in the upper-70s, touching 81 mph, with the fastball. Showed feel for a 12/6 shaped curveball at 64-65 mph. Also stood out at the dish - RHH that used a small hand load & short, controlled stride. Able to control the forward move, allowed for consistent timing. Bat works on a loose, level plane.

 

‘25 LHP Alex Barr (Canes Midwest National) - Indiana recruit. Sturdy, 6-foot-2, 215 pound southpaw. Tall inward turn at the top of the lift, swings to square. Mobile hips allow for a well-sequenced delivery. Ball jumps out of the hand - fastball worked 85-87 T 88 mph with carry to get above barrels. Big, 1/7 shape on the breaking ball, shows sharp bite, future out-pitch.

 

‘25 RHP Logan Cobb (Canes Kentucky) - Sturdy, 6-foot-2, 210 pound right-hander. Low-effort delivery with balance. Repeats the delivery to allow for consistent command of the zone. Compact arm action with quickness to a ¾ release point. Sat 81-84 mph on a fastball with some arm side run. Tunneled a slurvey, 69-72 mph breaking ball that induced chase. Struck out 6 in 3 innings of work.

 

‘25 LHP Lucas Collins (Canes Midwest National) - Athletic, 6-foot, 180 pound southpaw. Quick arm, athletic mover within the delivery. Fastball worked 84-87 mph with ride & run properties. Is able to get outs with the fastball, tunnels a short, mid-70s slider that got chase from LHH. Flashed a CH.

 

‘26 2-way Colt Dehart (Canes Midwest National) - Projectable, 6-foot-2, 185 pounder. Athletic & beginning to add strength. LHH OF that ran a 6.85. Turns an upward barrel with the ability to use the whole field. Creates easy bat speed. On the mound - balanced, low-effort delivery with major upside. Clean, compact arm swing. Commanded three pitches. Fastball worked 83-86 mph, creates late ASR. Changeup is best off-speed pitch, fading at 74-76 mph. Confident in CH in S/M scenarios & to both right-handed and left-handed hitters. Breaking ball sweeps at 72-75 mph.

 

 

‘27 RHP Lincoln Gregg (Canes Midwest) - Lanky, 6-foot-1, 155 pounder. Plenty of upside. Clean mover, attacks from an OTT slot, fastball worked up to 82 mph with carry. Feel to land a 68-70 mph curveball. Plenty of velo left in the tank, ‘27 arm we will keep close tabs on.

 

‘27 2-way Abrahm Howard (Canes Midwest National) - Very advanced ‘27 out of Kentucky. 6-foot, 185 pound RHH sets up in a tall, relaxed stance. Works short to the baseball with the ability to get the barrel to the front of the zone. On the barrel all weekend, multiple XBHs. Consistently made routine plays at SS with feet that work downhill. On the mound, worked 80-82 mph on a fastball with carry. Upside as an arm + one of the more advanced '27 right-handed hitters that I have seen. 

 

 

‘25 RHP Kyler Kaczmarski (Canes Great Lakes) - Wiry, athletic 6-foot-3, 170 pound right-hander. Fastball worked in the low-80s, touching 84 mph. Ball comes out of a ¾ slot, some deception.

‘27 RHP Brady Keck (Canes Midwest National) - 6-foot-1, 165 pound right-hander. Quicker lift with short, quick arm action. Creates sink on the fastball, up to 82 mph. Fastball induced ground ball contact. Flashed a slider with sweep. Development of CH will pay dividends. Good ‘27 arm to follow.

 

‘26 RHP Jaxon Lueken (Canes Midwest National) - Athletic, 6-foot-3, 175 pounder. Raw arm talent, plenty of life on a mid-80s fastball that was up to 86 mph a handful of times. Athleticism present in the delivery, uses front arm as a lever to create arm speed. Shorter, mid-70s slider. Major upside.

 

‘27 2-way Hunter Mason (Canes Midwest) - Some physicality in the 5-foot-10, 180 pound frame. Showed a 77-79 mph fastball with heavy sink, flashed a sharp, low-70s slider. At the dish, showed above average bat speed, translating to an exit velocity reaching into the low-90s.

 

‘25 RHP Gavin Meyer (Canes Midwest National) - Ohio State recruit. Projectable, 6-foot-5, 205 pound frame. Significant velo in the tank. Balanced delivery, slight crossfire & lands soft on front leg. Worked 85-87 mph on the fastball. Changeup has taken a big step up since my last look, potential to be an out-pitch, faded at 75-77 mph for swing-and-miss. Slurvey breaking ball at 72-75 mph.

 

‘25 RHP Aidan Micinski (Canes Great Lakes) - Upside ‘25 arm standing at 6-foot-3 and 160 pounds. Athletic mover - strike-thrower with command of three pitches. Fastball sat 84-86, touching 87 mph. Big, 11/5 shaped curveball - can land for a strike. Maintains fastball arm speed on a straight change at 76-79 mph. Continues to improve at a steady rate.

 

‘26 2-way Brendan Mira (Canes Tennessee) - Athletic, 5-foot-9, 150 lb frame. Athletic delivery on the bump, tall torso with a quick arm that comes out of an over-the-top slot. Able to get swing-and-miss on a fastball up to 83 mph at the top of the zone. 67-70 mph curveball with depth paired well with the riding fastball. Offensively, the LHH infielder showed a short, simple swing that worked inside-out to produce line drive contact to the opposite field. 

 

 

‘25 2-way Connor Mitchuson (Canes Kentucky) - Athletic, 5-foot-11, 165 pounder with some twitch. On the hill, Mitchuson worked his fastball up to 83 mph while showing quick arm speed. Attacked the zone & was able to get outs with the fastball. Arm strength translated behind the dish, showed above average catch & throw abilities. Produced in-game offensively - twitchy hands turn the barrel on a slightly uphill path to match plane. 

 

 

‘26 RHP Finn Mulvehill (Canes Great Lakes) - Lanky, 5-foot-11, 165 pound right-hander. Athletic delivery, inward turn at the top of a taller balance point, shorter stride down the slope. Mobile mover. ¾ slot creates heavy arm side run on a fastball up to 82 mph. Showed feel for a sweeping, mid-60s slider.

 

‘26 RHP Jacob Norton (Canes Midwest) - High-waisted, 6-foot-2, 170 pound right-hander. Tall inward turn at the top of the lift, lands closed with open front toe. Longer arm action with quickness to release. Worked the fastball up to 81 mph with some carry. Showed confidence in a 69-71 mph breaking ball that he was able to land & use as an out-pitch.

‘28 RHP Bodhi Pulley (Canes Midwest National) - 5-foot-11, 185 pounder. Stood out with arm strength on the mound, some of the best pure arm strength we’ve seen of any ‘28 thus far. Sinking fastball worked up to 81 mph. Flashed feel for a mid-60s slider with sweep.

 

‘25 LHP Colton Rerick (Canes Great Lakes) - Lanky, 5-foot-11, 155 pounder. Crafty southpaw with command of a three pitch mix. Slow tempo delivery with a wide lift, lands closed to create deception. Long, deep arm action - ball comes out of a ¾ arm slot. Fastball worked 80-83 mph with some ASR. Induced chase with both offspeed pitches - manipulated shape on the breaking ball and was able to sink the changeup away from RH barrels.

 

‘26 RHP Jacob Snyder (Canes Great Lakes) - Undersized RHP standing at 5-foot-8, 170 pounds. Slower tempo in the delivery, gets to a strong balance point and crunches torso to hide the ball behind his body. Arm action is clean, releases from a high ¾ slot. Fastball worked 79-81 mph, curveball at 66-68 mph flashed bite. 

 

‘26 2-way Noah Spalding (Canes Midwest National) - Louisville recruit. Sturdy, 6-foot-2, 210 pound two-way. Clean arm with quickness to release, worked 84-87 mph on the fastball. Shows command of three pitch mix, bigger breaking ball in the upper-60s to go along with an upper-70s straight change. RHH 3B with strength. Efficient lower-half generates bat speed. Tips the barrel before turning it on an uphill plane, pull-side power is present and advanced for a '26. Exit velocity reached 97 mph. Turned in an event-best infield velocity of 88 mph.

 

‘25 2-way Brayden Stevenson (Canes Midwest) - Ball State recruit. 6-foot-1, 188 pounder with projection left in the frame. Hopped on the mound for a brief stint, sporadic command but showed massive upside due to advanced arm talent. Exclusively pitched with the fastball - sat 85-87 mph and touched 89. As a position player, Stevenson has some power to the pull-side, producing an exit velocity of 95.9 mph. Best catcher arm at the event, throwing 79 mph from the crouch.

‘25 RHP Tanner Thomas (Canes Midwest National) - Louisville recruit. Athletic 6-foot, 180 pounder with wiry strength. Uber-athletic, turned in an event-best 60 yard dash time of 6.60. Athletic delivery, higher front side works as a lever to create arm speed. Fastball comes out of a lower slot, working 84-87 T 88 mph. Fading changeup is his best off-speed offering, also mixed in a slurvey, low-70s breaking ball. Showed command of all three pitches. Arm strength translated to the OF, posted an event-best 93 mph OF velocity. 

 

‘25 RHP Ethan Trimberger (Canes Great Lakes) - Projectable, 6-foot-4, 180 pounder. Significant room within the frame for added strength. Will add significant velocity with added strength & improved sequencing within the delivery. Some arm strength is present. Worked 80-83 mph on his fastball, flashed arm side run. Breaking ball shows slurvey shape at 67-70 mph. 

 

‘25 LHP James Tussey (Canes Kentucky) - Projectable, 6-foot-3, 170 pound southpaw. Provides a funky look, long-levers + side arm slot create all-kinds of deception. Fastball worked up to 81 mph with significant arm side run. Slider shows sweeping action at 65-67 mph. Nightmare look for LHH. 

 

‘26 RHP Martin Vander Plaats (Canes Kentucky) - Significant upside in the 6-foot-3, 185 pound frame. Athletic delivery with a longer, uninterrupted arm path. Ball comes out of an over-the-top slot, creates carry on his 81-84 mph fastball. Fastball induced swing-and-miss, more velocity in the tank. Flashed mid-70s slider.

 

‘26 RHP Rhys Wolf (Canes Midwest National) - Notre Dame recruit. Has added strength to the lower-half, 6-foot-1, 180 pounder. Athletic delivery, uses front arm as a lever to create arm speed - some deception in the way the frontside works, recoil finish. Was able to get swing-and-miss on an 86-89 mph fastball, changeup came out of the hand similar to the fastball to force uncomfortable swings. 72-75 mph on a curveball with sharp bite.
