Nathan Verst, a 5-foot-11, 165-pound RHP/SS from Bishop Brossart HS, has committed to Kentucky Wesleyan.  Verst, currently ranked No.45 in Kentucky's 2014 class, showed well at the Unsigned Senior Games event at Northern Kentucky University in August.  His fastball topped at 85 mph with a sharp breaking ball and very good changeup.

We recently caught up with Verst to discuss his commitment.

 

PBR: Why did you choose Kentucky Wesleyan?

 

Verst: When I went to visit, I felt like I was really wanted there. Also, it felt like home to me.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?  

Verst: University of The Cumberlands. There were a few D-1 colleges that wanted to see me again in the spring, but I couldn’t pass up this offer.

  

PBR:  Where did the coaching staff first see you compete?

Verst: The Unsigned Senior games at NKU hosted by PBR.

PBR: What role does Coach Lillpop expect you to play during your first year on campus?

Verst: He really thinks I’ll fit perfectly in the pitching rotation, but is also allowing me to play second base if I want to.

  

PBR:  Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

 

Verst: Tanner Norton, who was drafted this past draft in the 13^th round, He’s always been a role model and someone who would always take the time to work with me. My parents have also been the ones to motivate me and encourage me to always do my best. I couldn’t thank them enough.

  

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was your most exciting experience playing summer ball?

 

Verst: I play summer ball for Rob Sanders and Mills Rouse with the Bluegrass Chiefs. The most exciting thing to me was getting to play on some really nice fields like Ohio State University and playing against some very competitive teams.

PBR: What are your goals for your senior season at Bishop Brossart?

Verst: My goal is to not lead my team to “All A” but to win it. Also, make a run at state like my sophomore year. Going to Whitaker Bank Ballpark and playing is something words can’t explain. Not a day goes by where I don’t think I won’t be back.  I think this will be the year.

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher and hitter you have faced in Kentucky?

Verst: I think the toughest pitcher I have faced from Kentucky was Clitton Hollon who also was drafted this past year, but for this season I expect Hunter Dunn from Cooper to be one of the best around. The toughest hitter I would have to say would be Mason Forbes from Ryle. He has great power and can go to different sides of the field.
