The Western Kentucky Prospect ID Showcase in Owensboro on June 26 produced some solid performances.  Today we take a look at the catchers from the event as a pair of 2014's stood out above the rest. 

Seth Caple established himself as one of the top catchers in Kentucky's 2014 class with a strong arm and a very impressive round of batting practice.

Lazaro Sosa-Gonzales showed a quick release, good athleticism, and the ability to hit from both sides of the plate.

The following is a look at all of the catchers from the Western Kentucky Prospect ID Showcase:

Seth Caple, C, Dixie Heights HS, 2014
6-foot, 215-pound prospect with a strong frame, shows solid receiving and blocking skills, very good arm strength from the crouch at 79 mph, pop times ranged from 1.87-2.02 with all but one 1.95 or better.  At the plate, hits from balanced setup, short stride, good use of lower half creates quick bat speed, used wood bat and took one of the most impressive rounds of BP this summer squaring everything up and showing some pop, shows good strength, ran 7.62 60 yard dash.  Caple is one of the top few catching prospects in Kentucky’s 2014 class.

Lazaro Sosa-Gonzales, C, Butler HS, 2014
5-foot-8, 158-pound, switch-hitting prospect shows good receiving and blocking skills, very good athleticism and lateral movement behind the plate, quick glove to hand exchange and release, 73 mph arm strength from the crouch, registered pop times of 1.91-2.01.  At the plate, natural right handed hitter made more solid contact from the right side, left-handed swing shows potential, hits from open stance both ways, showed the ability to hit the ball the other way, ran 7.25 60 yard dash, solid catching prospect.

Noah Pike, C, Daviess County HS, 2015
5-foot-10, 160-pound prospect, shows good blocking skills, continue working on receiving with less reaching to the corners of the plate, solid glove to hand exchange, showed the most accurate arm of the event as every throw was on the bag, 68 mph arm strength from the crouch, pop times ranged from 2.06-2.09.  Offensively, hits from balanced setup, short stride, gets lower half involved in swing, short path to the ball, good rhythm and balance, shows the ability to hit line drives to all fields, ran 7.60 60 yard dash, 79 mph exit velocity.

Brice Stuteville, C, South Spencer HS (IN), 2017
5-foot-9, 136-pound, young prospect, room to improve footwork and glove to hand exchange, long release, 60 mph arm strength from the crouch.  At the plate, hits from slightly open setup, smooth load, short stride, triggers hands from chest level, level bat path, will generate more bat speed with physical development, ran 7.94 60 yard dash, 74 mph tee exit velocity.

John Gibson, C, Daviess County HS, 2017
5-foot-7, 178-pound, young prospect, room to improve setup, footwork, and glove to hand exchange, shows solid blocking skills, arm strength at 62 mph from the crouch, pop times ranged from 2.28-2.53.  At the plate, hits from balanced setup, drops hands in load, triggers hands below chest-level, flat bat path, hands show some quickness, can incorporate better lower half torque in swing, young prospect will continue to develop, ran 7.64 60 yard dash, 73 mph tee exit velocity.

Brendon Sorgmann, C, Edmonson County HS, 2014
5-foot-9, 200-pound prospect, shows solid receiving skills, sticks pitches well, 60 mph arm from the crouch, pop times ranged from 2.20-2.41.  At the plate, hits from a balances setup, no stride,long swing path, can get more consistent lower half torque in swing, ran 7.69 60 yard dash, registered 76 mph tee exit velocity.
