Kipp Moore, a 6-foot-1, 170-pound MIF from Shelby County HS (2014), committed to Murray State University last week.  The athletic Moore showed well during two stops of the Fall Prospect Program.  In addition to showing athletic actions in the infield, Moore showed good arm strength at 83 mph across the infield.  He ran a 6.83 60, and showed good bat speed at 90 mph off the tee with gap-to-gap power.

We recently caught up with Moore, currently ranked No.32 in the 2014 class, to discuss his decision.

PBR: Why did you choose Murray State?

Moore:  The baseball is very competitive and I love the coaching staff.  I also fell in love the campus and the atmosphere of the town around the campus, I felt like I was at home.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Moore:  University of Cincinnati, Bellarmine University, University of Louisville, University of the Cumberlands, Birmingham Southern (Alabama).

PBR:  Where did the coaching staff first see you compete?

Moore:  Coach Skirka first saw me play at a showcase camp they had down at Murray State.

PBR: What role does Coach McDonald expect you to play during your first year on campus?

Moore:  He expects me to come in and try and win a starting position at short or second.  He expects me to succeed academically and improve my game on the field to make me a better player individually and in turn help our team to win games.

PBR:  Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

Moore:  Definitely my dad.  He has coached me since I was very little on and off the field.  We are always talking about baseball, whether it is last nights pro game or one of my high school games.  More importantly though he is always there to support me and pick me up when I didn’t play my best. Yes,  sometimes he will get on me, but I always know it is only to make me better and he is doing it out of his love for me.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was your most exciting experience playing summer ball?

Moore:  This summer I played with my high school team but next summer I will be playing with Shelbyville’s Legion Team. My most exciting experience this summer was leading off the summer season and game with a home run. But for next summer I am looking forward to playing legion with a lot of old friends I haven’t gotten to be teammates with in awhile.

PBR: Shelby County had a good season last year and made it in our Power 25 rankings for several weeks.  What is your goal for your senior season?

Moore:  I want us to be right there again in the top 25.  We lost a lot of seniors but we have so many good young kids coming up that we can win the district and easily be fighting to win our region and go to state.  My ultimate goal is to go to state.  We haven’t done it since I have been at Shelby County and, I think we can make a good run at it this year.

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher you have faced in Kentucky?

Moore:  Walker Buehler from Henry Clay.  The night we faced him he had a lot of professional scouts there to watch him and you could tell that really got him pumped up.  He was chucking it past most of our guys and had a great curveball to offset his fastball.  His pitch location was perfect he kept everything low, and it made him impossible to hit.
