Team Kansas Super Sophomore Games Preview

From Saturday, August 3rd, through Sunday, August 4th, the Prep Baseball Central Region Super Sophomore Games will take place at the state-of-the-art Creekside Baseball Complex in Parkville, MO. In its inaugural year, the Central Region Super Sophomore Games will be comprised of teams containing the top 2027 graduates from nine states throughout the central region - Arkansas, Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Texas.

The Sunflower State will be proudly represented at this event, with a multitude of the state's top talents making the trip to Creekside this upcoming weekend. Below you will learn more about the players that make up Team Kansas for the 2024 Central Region Super Sophomore Games.

TEAM PREVIEW

Aedyn Acosta 1B / Bishop Carroll, KS / 2027

Long, lean 6-foot-2, 176-pound frame. Smooth, rhythmic, right-handed swing that creates leverage at the plate. Produced exit velocities upwards of 95 mph at our Kansas Top Prospect Games earlier this summer. Reliable, athletic defender at first base with feel for footwork around the bag.

Logan Baalmann MIF / RHP / Thomas More Prep-Marian, KS / 2027

Lean, 6-foot, 175-pound frame with room to add on strength. No. 12 prospect in the state. Was an impact player this spring on both sides of the ball as a freshman with Thomas More Prep-Marian, helping the Monarchs to a Final Four finish. Simple, repeatable right-handed swing that naturally elevates the ball to all fields. Feel for the barrel in game, hitting .467 this spring. Pitches in the low-80s on the mound with the feel to throw a slider/changeup mix for strikes. 

Jackson Barker RHP / Shawnee Mission South, KS / 2027

Plenty physical in a 6-foot-2, 185-pound frame. One of the top young arms in the state, ranked No. 6 overall. Jumped on our radar after a standout performance on the mound at the BTL Scout Day this winter. Elite competitor on the mound. Runs his fastball up to 86 mph, playing with carry through the zone. Spins a curveball/slider/changeup mix with the feel to land all three for strikes in any count to keep hitters off balance.

Drake Blasi OF / Maize, KS / 2027

Compact, 5-foot-10, 187-pound build with present strength in the lower half. Top of the order bat as a freshman on a state tournament Maize squad. Patient, mature approach in the box. Swings a compact left-handed barrel that naturally elevates balls with juice to the pullside. Reliable defender in the outfield with present arm strength (T87 mph). 

Carson Douglass RHP / OF / Eisenhower, KS / 2027

6-foot-2, 169-pound frame with plenty of upside. An arm to keep an eye on in the Kansas class. Loose, whippy arm action with more velo to come. Ran his fastball up to 84 mph across multiple looks this summer, consistently pitching in the low 80’s. Spins a 2,600+ RPM breaking ball in the low-to-mid-70s that he consistently lands for strikes.

Maddox Drumright C / RHP / Wichita Collegiate, KS / 2027

5-foot-11, 156-pounds with plenty of room to add strength and size. Recent standout at the Wichita Summer ID, earning an invite to the Super Sophomore Games as a result. Short rotational stroke at the plate with advanced hand speed and strength. Consistently on the barrel back through the middle of the field. 6.99 runner. Accurate arm from behind the dish with a clean transfer to pair.

Hays Ensley OF / Mulvane, KS / 2027

5-foot-10, 165-pound athlete that looks the part on both sides of the ball. 2023 Junior Future Games participant and No. 8 prospect in the Kansas class. Saw significant playing time as a freshman this spring for Mulvane. All fields approach in the box, with a fluid, quick, right-handed swing. Ability to impact the game on the base paths with a 6.99 60 time and a 86 mph arm from the outfield as well. 

Quincy Koehn RHP / Maize, KS / 2027

No shortage of size in a 6-foot-5, 207-pound build. Third ranked arm in the Kansas class and No. 4 ranked prospect overall. Intentful mover that produces effortless velo on the mound. Fastball ranges from 85-88 mph, reaching 89 mph this winter at our Wichita Preseason ID. Spins a short wrinkle slider in the low 70s with a low spin, tumbling splitter at 73-74 mph.

Owen Lester INF / Lawrence Free State, KS / 2027

6-foot-2, 180-pound highly projectable frame. 2023 Junior Future Games participant. Swings a long-levered left-handed barrel with gap-to-gap power and plenty more to come as he adds strength and size. Mature approach in the box that sprays line drives to all fields. Has shown consistent feel for contact throughout multiple looks this summer. 

Brett Liezert RHP / Olathe East, KS / 2027

Present strength and physicality in a compact 5-foot-11, 203-pound frame. Currently the No. 1 arm in the Kansas class and ranked inside the Top 250 overall at the national level. Saw significant innings on the mound this spring as a freshman with Olathe East. Has ran his fastball up to 89 mph, consistently pitching in the mid-to-upper 80s with carry through the zone. Commands two offspeed pitches that can be thrown in any count with a slider in the mid-70s and a changeup in the mid-to-upper 70s.

Brock Lubbers RHP / Rock Creek, KS / 2027

Strong 6-foot-2, 189-pound build with plenty of upside. 2023 Junior Future Games participant. Played an important role in Rock Creek’s run to the 4A State Championship this spring. Pounds the zone, showing advanced feel for a three pitch mix. Fastball plays in the low 80s with natural arm side run. Off that he spins a slider in the low-70s with 2,100+ spin and turns over a low-spin changeup in the low-to-mid-70s.

Connor McCool MIF / RHP / Shawnee Mission South, KS / 2027

6-foot, 162-pounds. One of the top two-ways in the Kansas class, ranked No. 7 overall. Produces effortless bat speed and pop at the plate, swinging a physical right-handed barrel that works back through the middle of the field. Has consistently shown the ability to elevate and drive the ball with juice to the pullside. Runs his fastball up to 85 mph on the mound, consistently sitting in the low-to-mid-80s, with feel to throw a slider/changeup mix for strikes.

Drew Pittman MIF / Blue Valley Southwest, KS / 2027

6-foot, 160-pound lean, athletic frame with plenty of room to add size and strength. No. 13 prospect in the state. Smooth swinging switch hitter with an innate feel for the barrel. Generates easy bat speed in a compact swing with sneaky pop from both sides of the plate. Clean, reliable, sure-handed actions on the infield, one of the top defenders in the state.

Cole Ryherd MIF / Blue Valley West, KS / 2027

Quick-twitch, 5-foot-7, 150-pound athlete. 2023 Junior Future Games participant. Short, simple left-handed stroke with all-fields feel and barrel accuracy. Has shown feel to hit in game throughout several looks this summer. Reliable defender up the middle on the infield. Scrappy, high-IQ, gamer-type with a high motor at all times. 

Ty Schmeidler OF / LHP / Thomas More Prep-Marian, KS / 2027

Athletic, 5-foot-11, 165-pound build with some strength present. Impact two-way name-to-know that helped lead Thomas More Prep-Marian to a fourth place finish at state this spring. Polished left-handed swing that works inside-out through the ball, flashing pullside pop. Strike thrower on the mound, racking up 57 strikeouts this spring. Fastball plays in the low-to-mid-80s with a breaking ball in the low-70s. Also throws a low-spin changeup with arm side fade.

Carter Scott C / Rockhurst, MO / 2027

5-foot-11, 160-pounds with plenty of room to add strength and size. Showed well recently at our Royals Scout Team Scout Day earlier this summer, repeatedly finding the barrel with a short, repeatable swing from the right side of the plate. Fundamentally sound defender behind the plate with soft hands and developing arm strength. 

Jacob Stehley 1B / Wichita Collegiate, KS / 2027

6-foot, 176-pound athlete. Possesses one of the smoothest left-handed swings in the class, creating effortless bat speed and pop. Has flashed pullside power across several looks this spring and summer with more to come. Versatile defender that can play both the infield and outfield with arm strength to pair. Can also pitch in the upper-70s on the mound while commanding a curveball/changeup mix.

Colin Zimbelman C / INF / Basehor-Linwood, KS / 2027

Athletic, 5-foot-9, 145-pound frame with strength in the lower half. Saw significant time as a freshman for Basehor-Linwood this past spring. Consistently on the barrel from a clean, right-handed swing that works back through the middle of the field. Scrappy, gamer-type approach to the game. Strong defender behind the plate that can play multiple positions across the infield as well. 

Ryder Zimmerman 3B / RHP / Maize, KS / 2027

Packed with upside in a 6-foot-2, 160-pound frame, room to add on. Recently impressed our staff at the Kansas City Top Prospect Games earlier this summer. Swings a strong, athletic right-handed barrel with low-to-mid-90s exit velocities. Elevates the ball to all fields with a strong feel for the barrel. Athletic mover on the infield with reliable hands and footwork.
