Team Kansas Future Games: Game Two Recap

On Friday, July 26th, Team Kansas faced off against Team Illinois in their second game of the Prep Baseball Future Games. Several prospects from the ‘Sunflower State’ showed well in the opening act, and you’ll learn more about them below. 

GAME TWO TAKEAWAYS

+ After taking a highly impressive, and physical, round of BP at Wednesday’s workout, C Carson May (Olathe East, 2026) unloaded on a no-doubt home run over the left field wall yesterday. Packed with strength in a 6-foot-1, 210-pound frame, May offers true middle-of-the-order impact potential at the next level and is one of the top prospects in the state’s incoming junior class. 


+ Another right-handed bat that’s shown well thus far in the event for Team Kansas is 6-foot-2, 228-pound 1B Drew Yockey (Mill Valley, 2026). Yockey slapped a single to the opposite field on Thursday against Team Missouri and, after drawing a walk in his first plate appearance yesterday, drove a deep fly ball over the left field wall for a home run. 


+ INF/OF Brady Stewart (St. Thomas Aquinas, 2026) has been a clear winner throughout the event and continued to show a top-of-the-order profile in Friday’s look. Stewart slapped a single in his first trip to the plate and he followed that up with a bases-clearing triple in his second at-bat. 


+ RHP Zane Shaw (Lawrence Free State, 2026) came out of the gates hot for Team Kansas, pumping his fastball at 87-91 mph early, topping 92 mph several times in his first inning of work. Shaw pitched to all quadrants of the strike zone, though was most effective down in the zone, where he showed consistent feel to spot up his heater. The 6-foot-1, 195-pound right-hander also spun a 69-72 mph curveball that he was able to land for strikes, though also grabbed some swing-and-miss. 


+ LHP Grayton Gross (Salina Central, 2026) retired each batter he faced in a brief stint on Friday afternoon. A strong, compact 6-foot-1, 200-pound southpaw, Gross threw his fastball for strikes at 83-85 mph, though he pitched mostly off a 74-77 mph curveball with big depth that was consistently in the zone, too. 


+ A standout with the bat thus far in the event, INF/RHP Milo Burton (Olathe East, 2026) showed off his talents on the mound in a quick relief appearance on Friday afternoon. Burton ran his fastball up to 89 mph, pitching at 85-88 mph, and he was able to land a 72-75 mph slider for strikes as he went on.
