Royals Scout Team Scout Day: Quick Hits

On Tuesday, June 4th, the Prep Baseball Kansas staff traveled to Creekside Baseball Park in Parkville, MO to host the first annual Royals Scout Team Scout Day. This event, which is in its first year, was open to all Royals Scout Team 2025-to-2028 prospects with 45+ names in attendance.

All of our events offer players the opportunity to update their recruiting resume and showcase their talents in front of our staff. We also use these events as identifiers for future invite-only events, like the Preseason All-State, our summer Top Prospect Games, and the prestigious Prep Baseball Future Games that takes place at the tail end of the summer. Earlier, our staff rolled out the day’s statistical standouts in leaderboard format within our ‘Stat Story’, which you can find HERE. Today, after combing through our notes from the day, we’ve compiled some of the event’s standouts within these ‘Quick Hits’. Read below to learn about 16 names that popped to our staff from Tuesdays trip to Parkville.

QUICK HITS

PITCHERS

+ As athletic as they come at 6-foot-3, 185-pounds, RHP Hudson Bailey (St. Pius X, 2026) impressed on the mound in Tuesday’s scout day. The two-sport standout showed a smooth, clean arm action that ran his fastball up 86.8 mph, while sitting consistently at 85-86 mph. With a high ease of operation, Bailey has plenty more velocity to come. Additionally, the junior had the to aptitude spin three off speed pitches for strikes with a curveball at 72-75 mph, a slider at 73-74 mph, and a changeup at 77-79 mph.

+ Coming off of a strong high school season and performance in the state tournament, LHP Grayton Gross (Salina Central, 2026) is one of the top young left-handers in the state. Gross showed the ability to command the zone with a four-pitch mix in Tuesday’s look, running his fastball up to 86 mph with 2,200+ RPM spin. Off of that, the junior spun a 2,300+ RPM curveball at 71-73 mph, a 2,400+ RPM slider at 80-81 mph, and tumbling changeup at 76-79 mph. 

+ LHP Caden Wallace (Olathe East, 2026) has the look to be one of the most projectable southpaws in the Kansas class. At 6-foot-4, 180-pounds, Wallace featured a quick, effortless arm action that produced fastball velocities upwards of 83 mph with arm side run. Paired with that he tossed a curveball at 68-69 mph and a changeup at 73-76 mph. For good measure, Wallace also reached a 94.2 mph exit velocity at the plate during his round of batting practice.

+ LHP Noah Thompson (De Soto, 2025) had a breakout spring season on the mound and carried that momentum over into Tuesday’s look. An aggressive, athletic mover on the mound, Thompson sat at 83-86 mph with his fastball, topping out at 87 mph, while reaching 90 mph across several other looks this spring/summer. With that he paired a slider/changeup mix that he commanded for strikes at 73-75 mph and 77-78 mph respectively.

+ RHP Bryson Augustyn (Park Hill, 2026) is packed with strength in a 6-foot-4, 240-pound frame. At the plate Augustyn put together a loud round of BP, posting a 101.1 mph peak exit velocity from the right side of the plate with an impressive 95.9 mph average. However, where the junior shined the brightest was on the mound where he featured a 84-86 mph fastball with heavy sink and arm side run to go along with three unique offspeed pitches in a  curveball/slider/changeup mix.  

POSITION PLAYERS

+ Packed with loud tools on both sides of the ball, C/INF William Howard (Basehor-Linwood) is a name-to-know uncommitted from the 2025 class. Plenty physical with strength throughout his 6-foot-1, 200-pound frame, Howard swung a quick, powerful barrel from the right side where he sent his best ball 362 feet at 97.9 mph during his round of batting practice. Behind the plate, the senior posted the top velocity of the day with a 87 mph bullet down to second base to go along with 1.87-1.98 pop times - second best on the day.

+ A top-5 prospect in Kansas’ 2025 class, C/OF Deacon Pomeroy (Shawnee Heights; Oklahoma State commit) put together a loud all-around performance at Tuesday’s event. As strong and physical as they come at 6-foot-4, 215-pounds, Pomeroy swung a heavy barrel from the right side, hammering balls from gap to gap with an inside-out swing, generating a 101.8 mph exit velocity and 392 feet peak distance - both top marks at the event. Better known for his work behind the plate, Pomeroy showed off his athleticism in the outfield while posting a 89 mph velocity to boot. Additionally, the senior ran a 6.97 60 for good measure.

+ INF Troy Fisher (Liberty North, 2026) is a projectable 6-foot-4, 190-pound junior to know from this event. Packed with tools on both sides of the ball, Fisher shined at the plate Tuesday, posting a 100.9 mph peak exit velocity with a 94 mph average while also sending his best ball 350 feet. His arm played true across the diamond producing a max infield velocity of 84 mph. With a 7.03 60 time to pair, Fisher has the athleticism and tools to stick on the left side of the infield or be a factor in a corner outfield spot. 

+ The number two prospect in Kansas’ 2025 class, OF Cole Pladson (Clay Center; Oklahoma State commit) is coming off a huge spring that saw him garner Prep Baseball First Team All-State and Kansas Gatorade Player of the Year honors. His performance at Tuesday’s event was no different where the senior showed advanced feel for the barrel in his BP round posting a 92 mph average exit velocity with a top mark of 100.4 mph, showing effortless bat speed (75.4 mph average) and strength in a compact, repeatable swing. Additionally, the 5-foot-11, 185-pound Pladson was up to 83 mph from the outfield with a 6.89 60 to pair.

+ INF Ben Graves (Lawrence Free State, 2026) was another standout from Tuesday’s event. A top-10 name in Kansas’ 2026 class, Graves is packed with athleticism in a 5-foot-10, 165-pound frame with room to add strength and size. One of the top defensive infielders in the state, Graves showed a sense of rhythm and ease in the field in this look, posting a 80 mph infield velocity with sure-handed actions to pair. At the plate, the junior showcased a simple approach, spraying line drives to all fields with a peak exit velocity of 93.3 mph. 

TWO-WAYS

+ RHP/C Brody Crane (Neosho, 2026) was a big winner on both sides of the ball from this event. With strength throughout a 6-foot-0, 205-pound frame, Crane got the day started with a loud round of BP that saw him send his best barrel 373 feet at 99.5 mph from the right side of the plate. Behind the plate, the junior posted 1.83-1.94 pop times with a 84 mph top velocity. To wrap up the day, Crane hopped on the mound, running his fastball up to 93 mph with the feel to fill up the zone with a slider at 80-82 mph, a changeup at 81-83 mph, and a tumbling splitter at 81-82 mph.

+ One of the most intriguing two-way prospects in the nation, RHP/INF Jordan Martin (Jefferson City, 2025; Arkansas commit) had a strong all-around showing at Tuesday’s event. Standing at a long-levered, 6-foot-5, 215-pounds, Martin continues to improve on the mound with every look we get. In this look he ran his fastball up to 92 mph (2,400+ RPM spin) with relative ease while also commanding the zone with a slider/changeup mix at 77-79 mph and 83-84 mph respectively. Offensively, the senior showed tools in every facet with a 97.9 mph peak exit velocity and a 6.76 60 to go alongside clean, athletic actions and a 85 mph velocity on the infield.

+ Another standout two-way performance came from RHP/INF Phoenix Thompson (De Soto, 2025). A 6-foot-1, 195-pound athlete, Thompson used quick hands and a flat, inside-out swing to drive the ball with juice to all fields in his BP round, producing a max exit velocity of 98.1 mph. Where the senior stood out the most was on the mound where the righty threw his fastball at 86-88 mph, peaking at 88.4 mph. Additionally, Thompson spun a curveball/splitter mix that tunneled well off of his fastball at 74-77 mph and 82 mph respectively. 

+ INF/RHP Bode Schenewerk (Jefferson City, 2027) showed a considerable amount of projectability and upside on both sides of the ball in a 6-foot, 160-pound frame. Schenewerk, a top-15 prospect in Missouri’s 2027 class, showcased a polished, right-handed swing that reached a peak exit velocity of 94.1 mph with plenty more to come as he adds strength and size. On the mound, the sophomore pitched in the mid-80’s while commanding a curveball/slider/changeup mix for strikes.

+ CIF/RHP Cale Fossett (Shawnee Mission North) continued to show why he is one of the top two-way prospects in Kansas’ 2026 class. The 6-foot-3, 195-pound junior was consistently between 82-84 mph with his fastball that jumps on hitters, topping at 86 mph later in the week at the NPI. Additionally, Fossett showed his strength at the plate, producing a peak exit velocity of 98.6 mph and using natural lift to send his best ball 374 feet. 

+ INF/C/RHP Peter Nickson (Rockhurst, 2027) put together a complete performance in Tuesday’s look. Listed at 5-foot-11, 170-pounds, Nickson showed considerable bat speed and feel for the barrel at the plate resulting in a 93.7 mph exit velocity. Defensively, the sophomore logged a 78 mph velocity and 1.94-1.97 pop times from behind the plate as well as a 84 mph infield velocity. Nickson then wrapped up the day by hopping on the mound and tossing his fastball from 83-84 mph to go alongside a curveball/slider/changeup mix.
